Hello everyone ,
I've lurked for a while and really like the site (espresso please, no milk) I've just joined and thought I should introduce myself. I'm an actor and video/film director with some radio broadcasting experience to boot. I started learning sideshow skills about 3 years ago from a friend who taught me to stiltwalk, eat & breath fire, walk & lie on broken glass and a little bit of acrobalance. We've performed on the streets, at private parties and corporate events. More recently, we've both wanted to expand our repertoire with some more extreme and gruesome sideshow skills. We got tired of being 'nice' and wanted to play our characters with a harder edge and with a more dangerous and baffling show. My friend is exploring the fine art of escapology while I concentrate on geek magic. My bed of nails part of the act is coming along nicely (Don't try that without the 6 Ps - perfect planning and preparation prevent poor performance [and injuries]). I'm progressing slowly with my blockhead technique. My main problems lie with human pincushion props and safety, I'll be posting a note about that and requesting advice after I've sent this in. It's nice to be here and I hope we can all get along and enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee. Sincerely, Mad Martin. |

Welcome. I'm curious, why "Legionnaire's Disease?" As a bit of weird trivia, the Society of American Magicians held their 1976 Philadelphia convention in the same hotel that spawned the deadly, mysterious malady.
Since we're in The Magic Café, I'm glad you're not "Salmonella!"

Hello Victor,
I chose 'Legionnaires Disease' because I was thoroughly stupid enough to actually join the French Foreign Legion once , an episode I still have the injuries from and an experience that I do not recommend to anyone at any time:bawl: . I learned my lesson the hard way, I hope no-one else is as foolish as I was. I hope that answers your query. Speak to you soon, Martin. |

Hi
Eeeek.. I hope you are not contagious. Please don't stand too close to the air conditioning. 'Since we're in The Magic Café, I'm glad you're not "Salmonella!"' LOL. I had that, not much fun. Especially the collapsing and waking up on a drip in the hospital. Seriously, welcome. It is good to have another geek magician here, trainee or not. Any help you would like please let me know. Have fun Duncan

Welcome, Martin. I'm sure you'll find time spent at the Café a refreshing way to take your mind off of your experiences in the Legion.
