As usual a simple cardtrick, dressed up in bizarre
anyone here have met a ghost? well let me share my first ghostly encounter... I remember I was on my friend's wake (show the 6 of spade) he died of car accident. I was alone standing staring at him while he lies silently in his coffin. (put the card in the specs hand) and I said (show another card lets say 2 of clubs) you're too young to die early and turn my back when suddenly someone taps my back. (tap the card on the hand of the spec) chills run down to my spine knowing that I was alone... there I saw him standing (show that you are now holding the 6 of spade) and he told me you'll be next if you won't cancel you're flight tommorrow and he points to the coffin... (ask the spec to look what card is he/she holding, to be shocked to found out it is the two of clubs). well as for the flight I still continue my travel , do you think I'm alive |

I like your thinking, BUT I think that this would probably fall flat on its face.
The idea of using card names / values as part of your patter (two / to etc) is an old one and one that lends itself to comedy magic. The above presentation wouldn't be taken seriously, which is what you would want! You need to either perform a very serious routine, based on the death theme, OR a fun, light-hearted routine using the play on words. Using both in the same routine will cause them to cancel each other out and you wont get the reaction that you want. I hope this makes sense? I'd love to hear the thoughts of others on this! Gary, I am not sure if Sinnead was going for the word/card relationship in this one.
What I see is a transposition, the changing palces of the cards- I would suggest that to get the best impact, they be one red and one black suit, if you are staying with the playing cards. maybe even your friend (Not Jack) is a face card. Sinnead, you have some good thoughts going, if you were to step away from cards, I could see this beign done with photographs. Either way make sure there is good Visual change for the "victim" to get a good reaction from them. Good luck Kay

I like the idea of using photographs - what the if ghost/dead photo was blank? That could be used to represent the idea that the spirit leaves the body upon death, and might add more impact to the transposition when a previously blank/overexposed photo changes into one with a photo on it...

Sinnead,
I like the idea, a basic close-up card effect with a bone chilling story line. Not to completely go along with Gary on this but I think it would be cool for you to get some blank faced cards and put the actual names on the cards that you want to use. And to go even one step further, when you say that your friend was killed in a plane crash and you're going to place that card in the spectators hand, tear "it" up first. Then we you say your friend was standing there and says "This will be you if..." they turn the pieces over and see your name. Ok, last idea, do a mercury fold and restore the pieces by saying, "I never got on that flight but that experience was something that I will never get out of my memory (the creases in the card represent the memory). Ok I've babbled for too long, hope that sounded alright, I LOVE your presentation! Very creative. |

Hi guys,
I still stand by what I said, a very serious, slightly chilling storyline accompanied by a standard card trick simply (in my opinion) wont work. I think you would look silly spouting on about dead friends with a deck of bikes in your hand. HOWEVER, the plot line is a nice one and the idea that Kaytracy raised about using photos is a good one. The photos would take the whole performance away from being magic and would turn it into a real perormance piece. It's amazing how many 'card tricks' can be turned into real performance pieces just by replacing the cards themselves with photos! I hopw that my comments did't offend you! Gary |
