My favorite color changing knife routine doesn't involve a color change.
It's a knife transposition in the spectator's hand. I learned this originally from Nic Niberco. Does anyone else have a CCK routine that isn't just a simple color change?

Years ago I built a short routine that started as a simple color change of a single knife. My false explanation was that I switched in a second knife of a different color. The end of the routine involved placing the white knife on the table and having the spectator cover it with their hand, then placing the black knife in my pocket. Then I would explain that although using two knives to make the color change might be obvious, the difficult part was to make them magically switch places to get the job done. The spectator lifted his hand to find a black knife. More or less a transposition like in a copper/silver coin effect. I was always under the impression that this was a fairly standard presentation.

It is. The one I refer to doesn't even have a color change as a premise.

Hi Bill,
The middle of my c/c knife routine has a transposition as you describe. It is in my TAKE A STROLL WITH ME, "Foot In the Door Knife" routine. Regards, Paul Green |

I'll have to look that up. I wanted to get completely away from the color change as a premise. One reason was that it was the single most popular close-up item that the guys at the local magic shop sold. I used a set of knives that looked like they came from Wal-mart.

I was given a set of Scotty York's knives and routine as a gift from Scotty. I've never really found the occasion to use them. I found them in a box as I was going through my magic storage the other day. There's a rust stain on the white one now apparently from being in contact with one of the other knives.

Sorry, even with the stain you can't have my set. I have an emotional attachment with my props even if I don't use them. Each one usually have some sort of story attached.

You can probably get that rust off the knife with some very fine steel wool.

It's not on the blade, it's a stain on the white handle.

That's still a color change isn't it?
Stain, no stain. Stain , no stain. ... maybe not. Steel wool might still get it off.

Hi Dave,
Make a "paste" of the product OXY-CLEAN. This is an oxygen based bleaching compound. You can also try CLR. This is designed to remove rust stains. Another solution might be hydrogen peroxide. Good luck, Paul Green |

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

Dave:
Something else you might try is some of that "whitening tooth paste." Generally, it uses hydrogen peroxide. Also, check at the local barber supply shop. Sometimes you can find 30% hydrogen peroxide there.
