Hi all,
I was just wondering if buying a pre-made tails would be better than having one custom tailored. You can see a custom tails for dove workers here: http://www.amosmagic.com/prod_complete_dove_pack.html thanks George |

George,
You look young in your picture, if you are still growing find somebody to make your costumes on the cheap. That said, It looks like a great product. Kregg

Hi Kregg
Yes I am still growing that's why I would buy it in a few years time when I have stopped growing. Getting it done on the cheap is an option but its not really worth it as I do not have doves yet so I might as well wait until I have stopped growing in a few years time then go looking for a dove tails of some sort. A thousand bucks looks a bit pricy, though! thanks George |

George, several things to consider here. First, do you really want to wear tails and do they fit your style and the places you will be performing. In my opinion, showing up for a kids party in tails looks very out of place.
It is not necessary to have a suit hand made for you. I would suggest that your first dove "outfit" be a tuxedo purchased off the shelf and modified to fit. Jackets should be at least 2 sizes larger than your normal size. These are much cheaper than going out and buying a set of tails and it's not so costly to make changes if necessary. As for the price of the package offered by Amos, look at what you are getting. He is making a set of tails to fit you exactly. It comes with the pockets, holders, shirt, cuff links, sleeves, videos, gimmicks, manuscripts and silks. All that is very reasonable at $950.

Hi Dave
Yes It does suit my performance style. I see what you mean---$950 is quite good value for all that stuff (Christian Dior!!!). I think I will start off with something cheaper, though. What is the cheapest price for tails? thanks a lot George |

You need to shop around for best price. I wouldn't go for the top of the line for the first suit. You need to get all the pocket positions correct along with any other gimmicks you may want to use. It's hard for me to put a price on a set of tails. I haven't purchased a pair in a very long time. My style dictates a normal tux. The last one I bought cost me $129 off the rack. Then I had to have it altered (chest stiffening, shoulder pads, and a few other little things)Probably total cost to me was $175.
If you have a tux shop in your area, check out there special prom and graduation sales. You might get lucky.

George,
Dave is right about the price. For now you can wear any nice jacket. Check out the Fantasio style dove vest, aside from being adjustable, it has several advantages. It can be found in the Ian Adaire Encyclopedia of Dove Magic. Though, I'm not sure if Fantasio sells Pattern's or the vest. Regards, Kregg

George,
Fry's tux rental shop has qite a few brand name tail tux and sometime they sell very cheap. I got 2 Christian Dior tuxes from them last year for 100 bucks each. It was a summer sale though. So check it out. They tend to have that kind of sell once a year. I have both of hs tapes if you like I can sell/trade with you. Just PM me. Ken |

I definitely think getting your own costume custom tailored is the way to go and is what myself and all of the professional magicians that I know do. It is cheaper and it allows the tux to be tailored for your body type and the needs of your act.

Tim, custom tailoring can be expensive especially if it's your first outfit. Buying a tux off the shelf and altering it is usually a good idea. It allows you change positioning of pocket etc without "destroying" an expensive custom made suit. It also depends on what the act really consists of. Does the entire act use multiple body loads or are just producing one or two birds? A pocket can easily be sewn into a suit but if the act using multiple productions and vanishes, then you'd want to be sure everything was where you wanted it before getting something custom made.

Dave, I definitely agree. That is what I meant when I said "custom tailored", simply that the jacket is altered according to your body type and need for the act because everybody has different needs. Buying one off the rack and having it altered to your needs is definitely the way to go.
Take care Tim |

I had my grandmother (a excellent seamstress) make me a suit for my show. I just then put in the pockets where needed and I was ready to go.
