You can try a card to cardbox routine. Check out Greg Wilson's Card Stunts. He has a great routine called Joke in the Box.

I do have one currently on one of my websites called, "Meltdown". Unfortunetely the demo video isn't up and running at the moment. I improved the handling since I last recorded it but I will be making a new one soon. If you do require a clip of the effect, I will be happy to get right on it and send you a clip.
Cheers, Chris.

I know this isn't a trick but there is some really neat stuff with a card case on De'vo's "Cradle to the Grave" dvd.

There's also the 'Dehydrated deck' in the Paul Harris AOA series. Not a routine in itself, but a great way to start one !

Dave Forrest's "Holey Ambition". He's a member of this Café. Do a search. Maybe he still has the free PDF download for it.
Hey Chris, isn't "Meltdown" one of Peter Loughran's tricks or does just have the same name?

I'm not sure to be honest. I am going to assume, and hope, that they are different effects with the same name.
My effect goes as follows: A card is selected and signed across its face. The balance of the pack is placed into the box and the box is closed and sealed with tape, a postage stamp or anything you wish! The selected card is placed on top of the box and the magician presses lightly on the top of the box. When the hand is removed, the card has completely melted away! The sealed deck can then be cut open and the cards removed by a spectator. The signed card is found face up in the face down deck! All the best, Chris.

You and Peter just happen to use the same name but the effects are completely different.

Chris... this effect of yours sounds great! Do you have a source where I can learn it? Is it published?
Thanks, Reis |

In my ebook "The King has Left the Building...With Amnesia" there is a thought of card to box called "Thinking inside the Box." There is also a routine called "A Guarded Revelation" which is a card revelation from within the case and card guard.

Hey Guys, Just to clarify, My Meltdown Card trick was first published and distributed by Morrissey Magic in 1997, from there came 2 more card effects by different inventors with the same name Meltdown, Now Chris is the Fourth. There are now 4 completely different card tricks out there all with the same name. I think it has to be one of the most used names now in card tricks, and I have a feeling there will be more.
When naming effects it is important for an inventor to try and search out there to make sure the name they pick isn't taken. Sometimes it happens though as I had it recently happened to me with my Black Hole effect. I don't care if someone accidently takes a name as it can lead people back to my website while searching for a trick with the same name, but it is in the inventors best interest to have a unique name so that the effects don't get confused by consumers out in the market place, or consumers end up buying someone elses's Meltdown persay while looking for yours...if that makes any sense...lol I watched your trick Chris, and it looked Great, good price too! Peter.

The most visual routine that I perform with a card box is a routine of my own called "Boxed Goodwin." This is a variation of a William Goodwin effect from his "Notes From The Bat Cave" lecture notes named, "Pickpocket Collectors."
Bill's original routine is simply wonderful and what I have added to it truly makes it even more stunning. The trick will be included in a booklet that I will be releasing soon, but I would be glad to send you a write up of the effect for free if you would like. Just PM me if you are would like for me to. The effect is as follows: "Boxed Goodwin" Effect Three cards are selected from a pack of cards. The four aces are then removed from the deck as well. The three selections are placed inside the card box for safekeeping. The aces are given a magical wave over the box and are immediately shown to have the three selections trapped between each ace. Another simple wave over the box and the aces disappear from the magician’s hands completely, leaving only the three selections. The spectators quickly grab the box looking for the aces to be inside and to everyone’s amazement the three selections have returned to the box. Looking back in the magician’s hands they find only the original four aces.
