Can anyone send me to a site or give me detailed advice about following up and/or obtaining references from a customer after you do the show?

Ask them for references. I always send every client of mine a thank you letter with bottle of wine (I perform Corporate Shows, exclusively). They always call or email and thank me, I then ask if they know of 5 or so other people who would be interested in what I do.

I then do lead generation with these new people, saying, "Susie at XYZ Corp. said I should talk with you..." A series of 3 letters in the first 2 months for new prospective clients and mail everyone who contacts me every month, regardless if they book me or not.
