Hello!
Two summers ago, I purchased an authentic Grover George magic poster (Triumphant American Tour) at an antique shop in Wisconsin. It now has museum quality matting/framing and looks great in my living room. Although I know a couple of facts on this magician, his competition with Thurston, etc. I've noticed that there is not much info on him online. I tried the magic directory but they have no info. Does anyone out there have any biographical information? I can send a picture of the poster to anyone interested. It is too large to attach here. Ryan |

Hi Ryan,
If it is a poster of his fab card from hands it may be a repo. Here is what I know about George. Grover George (1887-1958) was a Chicago illusionist who, along with William “Doc” Nixon, formed the “Mysteries Production Company.” About 1923, not yet magician Rosini was taken on as their assistant. The “Mysteries Production Company” disbanded in 1924. George headed off to South America, where he would soon be at the peak of his career.

It is my understanding that George was a hobbiest (sp) who lived in Zanesville, Ohio. He had the dream of a big show but never really toured it.
George posters were selling at Collectors several years ago for $75 each. They are great looking posters.

George was a huge success in South America. He returned to the US in hopes of touring but Thurston, fearing competition, told the theaters that if they booked George, they would not ever have Thurston on their stage again. It did the trick. George returned to South America, more success, and retirement.
Leaving behind his awesome and unused posters. BUT...did you know that there are two half sheets and two full sheets. It is a set of four, but most people only know of three of them. If you are interested in a full set of four, I know the person who has a few full sets...and they were for sale. |
