I have the older version of vanishing bandana, with the cassette tape. However, the other music I use in my show is on CD. Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to convert the cassette to CD? Or should I just go out and buy the newer version of vanishing bandana?
Just for background, I have a CD/DVD burner on my computer, along with software and the periperal hardware to allow me to convert from analog/digital video to DVD. I'm not sure if this will allow me to do the conversion. Thanks Kent

Since you currently own the routine. I think it would be fine for me to give you a copy of mine that I have on file.
It may be of interest to you to know that I also ran it thru some filters and cleaned it up as well as I added some extra pause after the "make a magical gesture"....as it was cutting off the audience's applause. One friend of ours uses our copy on a cruise ship and the sound guy there asked where he got that copy, as it was far superior to the one he had heard everyone else use in the past. Let me know. Play the cassette into your sound card and use your capturing software to capture it. Then save it as a wav for mp3 or whatever.
I hooked the cassette right to my mini disc and recorded it that way. John |

Kevin's suggestion is really great, so if it can be arrangent, go for it.
I have myself done the following when a similar hing has occured: I connected a cassette player to my computer (using "line in" on the sound card obviously). Then, using Sound Forge I recorded the entire tape in wav format and using Adobe Audition filtered the hiss etc. Kevin, did you use Audition as well? For those of you who want to have backup copies of vinyl records on cd, this works as well. I have done several and removing clicks and pops for better quality is really easy.

Mvmagic...
We use Cool Edit Pro 2.0, which is the same as Adobe Audition. It was Cool Edit before Adobe bought them out. A great program whichever you use. Taking a sample of the hiss, creating it as a profile...then deleting that profile from the entire track is an awesome tool. Kevin

Why doesn't deleting that "hiss" profile leave gaps in other, desired musical lines that happen to have corresponding (i.e. overlapping) frequencies in those moments?

The way I converted the format was copy to my DV Camera. Entered as an AIFF to computer. Which, in turn, I cleaned it up with a plug-in, then I compressed it to MP3 for iTunes and CD burns.

The simplest way to convert a CD to CD is to use the LINE IN on your PC and just use SOUND RECORDER. The output is a WAV file and it would work. Using other tools can clean up the sound like others have mentioned..Sound Forge, Cool Edit Pro, ect allows you to enhance the sound and customize it. Personally, I think just recording the entire script digitally by your local DJ (or firned that sounds like a DJ) would best the absolute best. As long as you didn't make copies for sale and you did own the original recording, you wouldn't be infringing on any copyright laws. I have the Casseette version and it sounds like a cassette, even if I convert it straight over to a CD. I think a personalized copy would play bigger and sound better.

I converted all of my dad's Chinese music from
analog to digital with a direct line from cassette to my 8 track digital recorder/mixer. Then re-mastered them to CD. Recording studios can do probably for a flat fee if you really want a good quality.
