Consider the capital letter "D". What period of time might it represent?
There is one answer, but two methods of logic that will lead you to that solution. Good luck!

Could it be showing half a clock so the straight lines represent both hands so it's six o'clock? Or it shows the sweep of the of thirty seconds or the sweep of thirty minutes?

...or the sweep of six hours. The hour hand is the most important
hand on a clock. The minute hand and second hand merely make it easier for us to read the time more accurately. (Kinda odd that we refer to the third hand as the "second" hand.) Since 6 o'clock and 6 hours can both be represented by "6:00," I think Greg has cracked this one. |

Hmmm, the time to turn the hour glass once?

O'clock <- au clock <- on the clock ... kind of implies a certain design of clock.

Greg has half of the solution: The period of time is indeed half an hour, as the D represents half the sweep of the minute hand of the clock
True, the half circle could also represent thirty seconds or quarter of a day. However, if you recall from my first post, there is one other method of demonstrating that the period of time is indeed half an hour. As you have the first part, I will offer you all a clue and say that the solution is a bit of a pun.

Stephen you are presuming that a clock has a second hand.
My cuckoo clock says you are nuts. But keep going, you are seem a good sport.

Jonathan,
Your cuckoo clock only has one hand? |

To solve the other part of the puzzle, the number of hands on a clock is irrelevant. The shape of the letter D is important, but not in relation to clocks.

Could we consider the D to be shaped like half of an hourglass
lying on its side)? If so, that would make it a "half-hour"glass. |

I was thinking of 24 hour clocks, where the half cycle would be the better (or first)half of a Day.
Anyway... seeing as how clocks with hands kind of went away in the latter half of the last century, we are back to digits and dots ... and the occasional hourglass. BTW, my parakeet once nibbled off the hour hand on my cuckoo clock. It also used to attack the bird that came out. It would wait on top of the clock and try to ambush the thing.

A capital D looks like the upper half of a capital R.
half an R = half an hour???? |

Indeed it does.... Stan, that's another of mine you've solved!
D - Half an "R", or half a clock face

Greg Arce got this one...and I tried to argue
that it was 6 hours rather than 30 minutes. I enjoyed thinking out loud with Greg, Shane, and Jonathan. Thanks, Stephen, for sharing and for the hints. |
