Does anyone remember Ken Brooks Magic Place in London. I use to visit there in my early days of magic. I only wish that I had more money at the time as everything he sold was great.

Hi All,
I too remember Ken Brooke. Echoing the post by Tony, I too wish I had more money at the time, in order to invest in his wonderful effects. Any effect that you bought from him had his priceless magitutors accompanying them. It was like having a private tuition session with him. Reading them not only gave you necessary tools to perform the effect but also giving you little asides as to how and where inspiration came. An example of this can be found in his tutor for the Nemo Rising Cards. Wonderful stuff. I suppose it is all to do with the passage of time but I really do lament the passing of dealers of this ilk. Internet magic shops cannot replace the anticipation, atmosphere and wealth of knowledge available that you knew you would experience at a bricks and mortar dealers. Yours in magic, Lester |

Ken Brooke's Magic Studio in London's Soho, was the greatest magic studio in the
world! Anybody who was anybody in the world of magic would gather there: Fred Kaps, Gaetan Bloom, Finn, Jon, Dai Vernon, Slydini, Johnny Paul, Tommy Cooper, Paul Daniels, Wayne Dobson, Jay Marshall, Ricky Jay, Juan Tamariz... EVERYBODY!!! Ken knew them all. His magic instructions were second to none: still unsurpassed today! He was the greatest magic demonstrator of all time! Probably the most influential man in magic of all time! If you want to learn more about him and of those wonderful times; the stories, the advice, the bits of business etc, etc, then you may be interested in the book I've just finished (after five years), which is a tribute to the man. It is called: 'Legend: An anecdotal tribute to Ken Brooke' and is to be OFFICIALLY released in February next year, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Ken's passing. The book is produced with the help and full endorsement of Ken's partner, Barbara McNaughton. The Foreword is by Wayne Dobson. This is a hard back, 220pp book, limited to only 1,000 signed and numbered copies worldwide. Part of the publisher's profits will be donated to two charities. |
