I'd like to definitely recommend Michael Sullivan's Match Pull. He sells it as a CD ROM which teaches you how to make it. Not only can you make as many as you like for pennies, but they are 99.9% reliable. Best I've ever seen.

Hmmm. Definitely looks like something I might want to check out. Only one question. Is it really worth $15? I could make a real simple pull using sandpaper, a rubberband and a match. Before I would buy it I'd like to know that I would be getting my money's worth.

If you can make a simple pull with those devices that works almost 100% then do so. However, in my experience at least, everyone I know who has used the rubberband-based device has found it to be unreliable (sometimes too loose and it doesn't strike, sometimes too tight and the whole pull comes off when you pull the match).
For the effort Michael has put in to the CD ROM it is worth $15. For the fact that it is so simple to make and so reliable it is worth $15. For the fact that I've paid a LOT more than $15 for metal match pulls that haven't worked... it is worth $15. TIM ELLIS

Good advice sanscan.
But if someone has invented a device (especially a gimmick or a gaff as opposed to a full blown trick with presentation) that solves a problem for you, then why re-invent the wheel? Use the time you would have spent inventing your own lit match producing device to work on your presentation. TIM

You can make them really cheaply.
Take a striker of the side of a matchbox, crease it and put a match in. pass a safety pin through it,wind a rubber band a round it to keep it tight and pin to the inside of your lapel. voila |

That's the pull I talked about making.

G'day all,
I guess it's time I spoke a little about my experiences. If you find a match pull you think works for you well that is what you should go for. But if you are going to use a match pull please take advice and steer well clear of rubber bands as they are not going to help you. I have played around with every match pull I could get my hands on and that does not mean all that have be created. All I can say is that I have spent hours trying different methods until I found the method I teach in the CD-ROM. If you get my CD-ROM I not only teach you how to build it via video and images but I also explain why my match pull is designed the way it is and I show you how each material and construction method makes it work so well. So you not only learn how to build them, where to get the material and unlike any other explain exactly why the match pull is so successfull to allow you to get every insight on the gimmick. But with that I will leave you to make your own minds up. Michael |
