Came across a couple of match light accessories (worn under lapel etc.) for production of a lit match during performance. Both claim to be "the best". Search here turned up anything but this item.
I don't care to make my own as I know of several methods but not interested. Can anyone with actual performance experience recommend one? The matches (3total) to be produced during stage manipulation act to light candles. |

Randy,
I looked at a couple of accessories (one swiveled to allow pulling the match at the correct angle), but decided to stick with do it myself on this item. It takes me three minutes to make a matchlight (including coloring the matchstick black). I'm curious why you are shopping for a ready-made item. I'm open to learning new techniques and don't want to pass up an opportunity. David
Yes, I am a magician. No I did not make my hare (hair) disappear... it just took early retirement.

Be sure that making this things yourself is the best way. It is not cheap, it costs nothing. It takes just alittle time and you will make it just "fit" yourself.

I have used Dan Birch's or Tony Clark's Match pulls and have found they work great. I mentioned both names cause I can not recall exactly which one carried and made them. I am sorry for that. You can make your own with patience, practice and testing. No matter whos you use, the idea is to have more then you will need in the act in the event one does not light. I also have a back up lighter handy as a second back up. Always be prepared.

Kyle, yes it is T. Clark. I'll have two sets loaded and I thought about a lighter in pocket as well! We certainly fear Murphy's Law and appreciate alternate course of action. I'm paranoid enough to have a second match light ready, lighter in left pocket, and yet another in the right pocket.

I always go through my acts and make sure I have planned "outs" for everything in the act that can possibly go wrong. This way I make it habit for me to switch to plan B in the event something does not go according to plan. Having a lighter as a back up is just part of this safety methods I go through to ensure my acts go off as well as I want them to.
Even if I use a lighter, it does not mean the act is any less a success. I have to remember that the only person who knows what is to hapopen in my act is myself and my wife. The only way they will know their is an error is if I LET THEM KNOW. If I go to the lighter, then it just looks like I meant to do that all along. Kyle
