Blazes816...Money!
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

I dunno Stan. The link to Alec Guinness is there in the Ladykillers reference + obie-wan. What then of the O'Brien and Guinness references?

The original (cryptic) crossword clue:
Drink with creamy head. Guinness, for example (4) The drink: ale. "creamy head" means "the head (first) letter of cream," i.e. the letter "c." Put the ale together with the c and you get "Alec." "Guinness, for example" is the secondary clue confirming that "Alec" is indeed the 4-letter answer. Since Guinness Stout uses "creamy head" in its advertising campaigns, this clue is especially clever/misleading. My follow-up (unlike the crossword clue) does contain extra bits of verbiage. The extras are there only to help camouflage the real clues. When you first read "Obie one", did you think of Obi-Wan? "O'brien" and "FFFF" were misdirection of sorts. I didn't want to simply blurt out the answer...even though the original intent of Stephen's post was to get others to share especially clever crossword clues that they've encountered, NOT simply to solve the example he presented. Since I'm coming clean, I'll also point out that the answer to Doctor Whoston's "Kirk to Scotty" is "Church of Scotland." Look into its history, and you'll see why I brought up "Presbyterians." And "Stake Alger" is an anagram of "Great Lakes," though I think that was already clear from a previous post. Stan Alger |

Kevin,
You're correct. The first is easy (but not over easy), but the second....??? I haven't got a clue! Let me put on my thinking caps. STAN ALGER |

I managed to fool myself a moment ago. I thought "I'm glad no-one's got the second one". Then realised you had.
Kevin.
