I am presently trying to put together an entire in the hands performance. I don't want to use a table, I want my magic to be self contained in the pack. Id like to get everybody's input on this, what are some real good routines that are completely free from a table? This is just a nifty little project for myself.
Here are the restrictions: 1. don't suggest an Ambitious Card Routine, no matter what. 2. IF a table HAS to be used (meaning a table top is absolutley pivotal to both methodology and/or presentation), the effect isn't ITH. can the effect be accomplished if a spectator holds something or lays their hands flat? If storage is the issue theres always the floor or a pocket. 3. Packet tricks of the NON WALLET vairety. (ie those that are done with cards staright from the pack) 4. No ambitious card routines. 5. Heres a challenge: A gambling demo done without aid of the table. The best one will win a prize. doesn't hafta be yours, just suggest one. 6. Extarraneous props are frowned upon but are allowed as long as they look natural and make sense (ie no Walnut boxes) 7. When suggesting a trick try your best to credit it so we can all try to find it. Like I said... no ACR and the winner of the best ITH gambling demo will get a prize. |

For the gambling one, maybe you could check out dan fleshman's flushed out. Its a quick routine where you transfor one hand into another, and if you make a good story for it, maybe about how you were in a poker game and you were in trouble or something like that, you could have a really good trick. A table isn't necessary, you could certainly use the specs hand or the floor.

Troy Hooser has a great in the hands Triumph routine in his book DesTROYers. There are plenty of other great in the hands effects...
David Acer's OverTime Jay Sankey's Back In Time Just do a search on the Café and you'll find plenty of suggestions. Caleb

Bro. John Hamman has a "Poker Demo" in which a hand of cards changes over and over at the top of the deck. All in the hands, I think. I can't recall the title, but it's in "Secrets of Bro. Jiohn Hamman" by Kaufman.
John Mendoza's "Routined Poker Mental" can be done without a table, and is a feature length routine with absloute mindreading done in the context of gambling. You'll have to deal five spectators each a hand of poker, but that doesn't really need a table. Finally, checkout Harry Lorrayne's "Amazing Flourish/Display" (or something like that) in Quantum Leaps. All standup, you cause two sets of four of a kind to pop out of the deck, ending ins adisplay of all eight in one hand that's remarkable. I hear Tom Mullica used to do this one behind the bar.

The Bro. Hamman routine is called "Flash Poker" and it on the DVDs from Houdini Magic and in The Complete Almanac (where it was first published) as well as in his out of print book.
Chris Kenner has a minor varient of the Hamman routine, called "Poker In The Eyes" in Totally Out Of Control, which is currently back IN print. HR's routine is called "The Amazing Revelation Display" and also appears on one of the Tannen's Stars Of Magic videos. Shame about the AC restriction... Oh, and Mike Close's new e-book, Closely Guarded Secrets has material that he used at the Houdini Lounge which is in a casino in Vegas. That venue allowed for longer routines that you might have time for in a walk around situation, but it's one of the best books on walk around magic that you'll ever read... And his entire Workers series of five books is now available in e-book format with all five volumes plus two bonus tricks... Tons of great magic from his stand up act, strolling, and resturant work. |

Spectator shuffles.
Do John Bannon's new trick line of sight twice as you stack the deck during the second time for... darwin ortiz has a "one-handed poker deal" that is cut, shuffled, re-cut, and dealt all with one hand. instead of a royal flush, stack for 4 aces. then follow that up with doc daley's last trick followed by twisting the aces.

And then close with last man standing. sure. that's a good idea!
we can split the prize. The one-handed poker deal requires a perfect-ish faro with one hand. and the one-hand waterfall shuffle. a couple of different one-handed cuts as well. not hard tho.
