I saw it...
Good, but could've been better I thought... Especially with the caliber of artistes on the project... Best performance for me was Dakota Fanning's... That girl's better than most adult actors I've seen... Whaddaya guys think?

I am definetly planning on seeing it since I am big buff of not sci fi but anything alien related. (If that somehow makes sense.haha).
I LOVE Dakota's acting. She is one killer girl. If this movie is a lot like the "taken" series that steven made I am going to fall in love with it. I read mixed reviews on the movie so I don't have my hopes that high up. I always wanted to see a movie of this caliber of aliens not coming in peace. I thought it made for a great twist. Either way I will be off to see it soon and definetly will give my thoughts on it. |

This post has a couple of plot spoils built in...if you haven't seen the movie, skip this posting. You've been WARNED! Hahahahahahahahahha!
It's so hard to top the original films (Although, I thought The Longest Yard remake did just that...barely). It was great seeing Gene Barry and Ann Robinson, the original stars of the 1953 film, cast as the grandparents in the remake. I also believe that Dakota Fanning did an incredible job. This film was far more frightening than the original with the subsonic sound effects and various features. The director made me feel a level of the fear faced by the characters on the screen. I'm not sure exactly what it was...but, I felt as though the film had some serious gaps and flaws...for example...How did they bury all of these machines throughout the world without falling victim to the bugs? Why bury the machines millions of years ago when they could have just taken the planet then? When the first tripod appeared, all of the machines and electrical devices (watches, phones, radios...)had stopped working...however, the first victim was video recording when he was hit by the beam. I know...I'm over analyzing. I'm one of those guys who looks for tire tracks during indian chase scenes. Still...I was disappointed in this one. Maybe it's a subconscious extension of my loathing for Tom Cruise. I don't know. I'll stick with the original. :o) Skip

First off I want to agree here, this is an important point. One of the biggest flaws in the movie was the premise itself, which the new screenwriter and directer/producers were limited by. The whole premise is very very flawwed, but some possibile explanations were that the machines were sent unmanned and buried themselfs, or more realistically just landed and waited for the earth to cover them up(why fossils are buried, over time land would accumulate). Anyway, the big thing is how did the capusles get there? In ships? were they sent from really far away? Perhaps they waited because in addition to water, they needed more organic material(human blood perhaps?) or wanted our culture and information in addition to any natural resources. Perhaps they gave humans the spark of thought in order to set the culture in motion only so they could practice destroying us(perhaps we were practice for another intergalatic war type thing). In any case, its a huge flaw and should have been re-written imho. Finally, the EMP thing is legit... EMP will only fry electronics that are turned on... if the camcorder was off during the EMP, it would work fine.... The other cars probably should have been ok also(that were turned off), but perhaps the electronics in cars are always on for monitoring purposes.... who knows. |

When I first heard the aliens came from underground I started to wonder... Silurians? The old ones from Dr Who and/or HPLovecraft? Chtulhu wakes up at last?
Nah... just an update movie, but I'm sure the tripod toys will sell.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I somewhat enjoyed the movie it was better than the Village. The plot made little sense to me. I shoulda saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith or something better.
