FTAMagician,
I saw Robert do a lecture at my Magic Club this month. He gave us a preview of this effect. It is very good. I have not seen any ads yet, but I am sure that the effect is as it reads. There is a similiar effect on the market, but his is, IMHO, easier & if my memory serves me,resets instantly. Once you see the gimmicks you may think that you can make it yourself, but he claimes that you will not be able to find the correct ones. Yes, he did give the secret away to us. If anyone gets a chance, I strongly suggest that you see his lecture. BTW, he will be at Magic on Manhattan next month in NYC. |

wow...that was something I was wondering about way back in Oct of last year!
I've gone to other methods since and saved the $$ on that one! |

it's clever but not so much as to replace the method that i've been using. i agree with Richard Lyn's post above about the weight and the potential for tearing. i'm considering posting it for sale at a substantially reduced price later this week.

I agree its heavy, but I really like it.
I think that I would have liked to know about the weight issue prior to making my purchase, but oh well I can use it. oliver |

Is this method more like Tony Stevens' "No Tear Paper Tear" that Mark Mason put out several years ago or something completely different?

Tony Stevens effect (No tear is light) I am also curious as what the difference in Stevens method and Baxters method. Are they similiar in the gimmick used?

One difference (that I'm comfortable sharing) between the Tony Stevens effect and Bob Baxter's is that you actually tear up the pages with Baxter's method and then restore them. The Stevens effect starts with the pieces already torn and then they're restored. I use the Stevens approach in my kids shows as I'm telling several corny jokes that I've collected from various torn out pages from the comics section in the Sunday paper. After a few groans and laughs I then restore the Sunday comic section.

Hi, in the instructions for Tony Stevens 'no teat paper tear' he mentions 2 effects, the first one (which it seems is the most popular) is that of starting out with the torn pieces and then resoring them.
The second effect starts off with a whole newspaper, you then procede to tear it and restore it as per the traditional routine. Both Tony Stevens effects use the same method. If Baxter's method is similar to that of Stevens second effect mentioned above isn't this duplication - and is there any crediting?? |

Greetings,
I had to jump in here and offer the real information behind the Baxt Better Paper Tear. Robert Baxt created his Better Newspaper Tear 20 years ago. This was long before the No-Tear Torn and Restored Newspaper was created or even marketed. If anyone should be credited, it should be Robert Baxt. To date, Hocus Pocus Magic has sold OVER 700 Baxt Paper Tears. We will continue to sell and distribute this product. We also stand behind Robert Baxt's products, and are proud to represent his line of fine effects. I hope this information clears up any questions you might have regarding this product. As always, you can call me at the store 1 800 407 4040, or email me.

You receive the specially designed gimmick, a Performance & Instruction DVD that includes Robert’s method, hilarious routine, and complete patter. I bought this because of the gimmick I bought this because of the "hilarious routine and complete patter" The gimmick is probably fine. Perhaps too heavy. The physical difference in the fold/paper itslef is not as clean as the original. This is excused away on the DVD as "only a magician would care" but I'm not so sure. The hilarious routine and complete patter? Does not exist. What I thought was the explaination to the trick was actually supposed to be the hilarious routine. He must use something different in performance that we're not getting on the DVD. Very disappointing. If you're buying it for the gimmick, perhaps. If you're buying it to get a great presentation for the routine and a gimmick??? NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL!

Well I currently have been doing the ron wilson tear and must say that it is good but I have playing with the baxter version all night and it is now my new version which will go in the show next week. I will address the concern of how heavy it is now. After much playing I do agree it is heavy but we are magicians and we are suppose to make light look heavy (floating ball) and heavy look like our job is to mis direct and create a effect. Yes it is heavy but it all depends on how you play it and routine it. I am very happy with it and think that it is a great solution to many problems in the past.

I know this is a very old thread. I have a question on the gimmick. Is it possible to maybe use one of these new thinner and lighter earth thingies instead of the quite heavy supplied one?
