I just posted this in the products section but thought you guys would like to see this.
I debuted (sp?!?) The Rat Pack last evening as I began my street act downtown. Played it up strong and really got a crowd for the rest of the set (egg bag, balloon swallow, rings, then the cups and balls with super finish). That rat trap really served me well and scared the crowd into watching me for what was yet to come. Worth all the trouble of the last months to get it going. It sure fits well in a street act. So I have no complaints and have full expectation that this will pay well for me in the future (oh I rather asked the crowd for a dollar or two before I endangered my livelihood before I grabbed the card even before they knew what was coming... it helped to drop the hint that I accept gratuities oh so well.) This trick has done everything and more than I expected from it. If you notice it is one of only two new tricks from among the classics that I showed. I made a lot of money last night for just 2 hours. Marty Greenville, SC (P.S. the super finish to the cups and balls is all Gazzo all the way. I just graduated his masterclass last week and dangerously started doing it his way. A bit rough and without too much humor yet, but boy did it all play well. I am indebted to him beyond compliments for changing the future of my magical life with his concerned and supportive instruction.!!! If I can, I will credit him as much and as often as possible for steering me this way for such a powerhouse and effective ending to my act.) |

Marty,
How long is your act? You've got a lot of effects there. Jim

Not too long really.. maybe 15 minutes.. one of my biggest problems/maybe assets is that I go really fast. the balloon is quick,, the trap is 2 3 minutes the rings are only 3 rings about 2 minutes or so leading up to the cups and balls which can always adjust to the crowd's attention. everything of course is interactive... and as I judge the audience I would certainly cut a few effects to go straight to the big finish.. last weekend I think I did the cups and balls only 3 times in 2 hours and still made out well.
Marty Balloon = 2-3 minutes. marty |

That's great to hear Marty! Don't forget to slow down! Same money, half as much work. It's great to see another Master Class attendee doing well. Was this the pitch we spoke about or somewhere else? (not asking you to publically disclose the location- just curious yes/no if it was the place we spoke about).

It is my place.. no need to be discrete about it.. no one in the area has the nerve to busk in my town.... I played in downtown Greenville, this past Saturday and will again on the 23rd and again the last two Saturdays in August. It is a piece of cake.. the city gives you a free permit...
today I went to the city and even showed them a video of the event off my little digital camera. The little musicians in town (my competition for the venues) don't come close to what I did this weekend. Boy did I have fun too. thanks to you and Gazzo.. you helped me make it happen Marty "sleight of hand that gets a smile" |

Hay-hay, you better watch what you say. I'm thinking about coming out of retirement. I've let my disney past go to waste for too long. I'm tired of my wife nagging me. I'm hittin' the bricks, fellas. whew!

Marty, I posted this in the Reviews thread, too, but in case you missed it:
Thank you Marty, for the "Word on the Street" so to speak. Real-life experience is gold, and nothing speaks louder than success. I haven't tried this on the street, but for trade show work, I have found that if you start with it to gather a crowd, (as you did) you can hold them there through the rest of the act by promising to do it again, but with the mini deck. ("The smallest cards in the world...") Makes for a good running gag. Of course, you probably have your own way of building the tip, but you might want to keep this in your bag of tricks. Congratulations! Slow Traps and Fat Hats, Curtis

Hi Guys... Is this the small bear trap trick you are refering to? I've been looking for one of those, but haven't had much luck. I had one for a a few years about 5 or 6 years ago and I gave it to a friend for a favor. Just haven't replaced it yet. Drop me a PM if you have a source.

Hey Guys thanks for the messages, I really enjoy the comments.
"C" - sure did get your initial post and will certainly take advantage of the mini deck teaser. "Bro - P" - you need to see the trick The Rat Pack under our dvd headings, here you will see a vigorous discussion of the trick and where you can find it. Don't know much about bear traps except what Penn and Teller did years back but I wouldn't bother with that... the rat trap here packs small costs less plays way large so the economy and the convenience is everything let alone the desired ... effect. and for all.. I wrote sardini a private message personally inviting him and offering to help join me on our Main Street. Marty |

Bropaul, as much as I agree with Marty about the rat trap being a much more credible and recognizeable threat, I have a soft spot in my heart for the good old fashioned bear trap, as well. Last time I was at Denny and Lee's, he had just received a box of them, they were smaller than a bear trap, more like a badger. You might give Denny a holler.

A long time ago I worked in a bar where the bartender would place a customer's change on the bar and then place a loaded bear trap over it. The bartender would ask the customer if he could keep the change if he picked it up through the trap, the customer would almost always say yes, and then he'd reach and grab the change as the trap really snapped shut on his arm. It was a very funny moment, and he made a lot of tip money!

I use what we call in the UK a Gin Trap, you call it a Bagger Trap.
Guess why we call it a Gin Trap? Larry I do like this story about your bartender now that gives me a good idear. You can see my Gin Ttrap on my web-site http://www.streetcredmission.co.uk/Mario......eUp.html Top Tip: use a cheap plastic pen early in the show it will shatter and you will be left holding one half, then say you are going to do it at the end of the show. I suggest you experiment with this first, the fragments of the pen will shoot out once you learn there flight path you will be able to direct away from your audiance. Failling that Pasta all dried stick bread works well because it to will shater. Mario PS Another top tip: Make sure that you remove the ink real. |

Hi Guys:
Did some research. Picked it up. Practiced it a couple of times and put it in the show last weekend. It's a keeper. Draws a big crowd and has a unique feel about it. I like it a lot. I'll jump on this post later when I have worked it a bit more. So far so good. Only nailed myself a couple of times. It hurts... Alot! Thanks for pointing me in the direction of The Rat Pack. |

Hi Everybody!
Just received my Rat Pack DVD from Curtis Kam. I really like the idea and the presentation of that great stunt combined with the card effect. The quality of the DVD is very good and the explanation is very detailed (in some cases to long IMO, because most of the people know about the function of such kind of a trap). Anyway! What I really miss is the explanation of the card trick. I don’t do cardtricks and Curtis Kam only tells you in a short manner to control the card to the needed spot. BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW. For such a (high) priced DVD with only one Trick, the explanation should be complete and come with it in every detail. Better to cut of some explanation of the function of the trap. It really is much to long and not needed to be in such a detail! What do you think about it? Hopefully someone can help me and tell me a methode of controlling the card to the needed spot. That would give me the oportunity to use the Trick for a real life performance. Looking forward to hear from you inhere or PM me – Thank you in advance! Cheers, Jarod

Jarod,
Curtis Kam is a frequent patron to the Café...Try PM-ing him. I have no doubt that he will give you multiple methods, or better yet, sources to find the needed details of the control. Best, Jason |

Hey Jarod... I have a new idea on this for you....especially if you are not comfortable around a deck of cards.. They make a new stripper deck from the US Playing Card Company.. it is beautiful.. if you look on ebay you can find it real cheap..
they pick the card you rotate the deck...while they look .. they can put the card back.. you can shuffle.. they can even shuffle.. and you can strip out or cut to the card when you are ready.(first showing that the card is not on the top nor the bottom. Daryl makes a stripper deck that he takes down on one side about the same in price. This deck won't stop you from doing the trick. yeah a few cards will get mangled but get a few decks and I bet you will have enough to perform this a long time. this will get you started.. if you really need the card to be signed I will give you some other ideas. Marty I did it today at the cancer survivor's party at the Marriott in Greenville it played well. |

Thank you both for your answer!
Marty, your idea sounds very good. I have to think about it, because as I said, I don't do cardmagic. The Stripperdeck maybe is an easy thing to implement! I'll post again if I have some more question! Thanks again, Jarod
It's not the Trick. It's the Magician!
