Here are one of the two light boxes that I built the other day. I'm not much of a handy man, but these came out real nice.

Very nice indeed. Wish I could make something like that. Let me know if you ever decide to sell some.

What wattage are you using? The case itself looks like "plastic? Is it? How are you handling cooling, or are you just depending on the ambient around the mounted cans? Are the cans Par 64 or less? Steeel, Aluminum?
Dimmer??? It looks great -- and I am interested in the details because it looks very "roadable" for stage level footlights.....but am also concerned whether the case can overheat, smell or melt when lights are run full for a longer period of time????

The design is based off of the Zaney Lights in "The Banquet Magician's Handbook", only in the book Walter Blaney's design uses a plywood box. These are heavy duty plastic SUV storage boxes I got from Lowe's. There seems to be plenty of ambient around the lights, and Scott Guinn, who gave me the idea to use the tool boxes instead of the plywood has been using his for years with no problems. They are aluminum par-38's, 150W bulbs. There is no dimmer, but if you know anything about wiring, I'm sure you could put one in, or a switch to cut out the white light if you want to do thread work. I personally haven't left the lights on for an extended period. I'll probably do that on Thursday as that is my tech day. They have not been "field tested" yet.

I got the lights from bulbamerica.com for under a hundred bucks. The SUV boxes wer around 25.00 each, and then of course a few dollars for nuts, bolts, and washers. The extension cords were probably the most expensive thing. I would also recommend picking up the "The Banquet Magician's Handbook". Aside from being full of a ton of valuable information, and the light plans, it helps to support Walter, and David's contribution.

Just an FYI...
I use metal toolboxes. So I've never had a problem. I wouldn't know how these would hold up--might be fine. Mine have proven very serviceable, and have no doubt that Eric's will, too--or he will find a way to make them so. They can really add a nice touch in dimmer lit venues. Blaney recommends floodlights as opposed to spotlights, and I think he's right on the mark there.

Ah, I stand corrected. Sorry Scott, I thought you had plastic boxes, and yes, I use floodlights for the bulbs in the par 38 canisters. I had emailed Walter Blaney about the lights, and he said the soon they will be produced and for sale. He also mentioned that the original lights he used are no longer manufactured, and there will be some slight differences which will add to the serviceability of the lights once they go into production.

You mean Walter Blaney will be selling a light set-up? Wow, did he say when they were coming out?

He has someone else producing them, and he's getting a royalty on them. Probably a few months. I believe Procraft Illusions will be building them.

Is Procraft the same company that is now producing Blaney's 3001 suspension?
