Hi everyone:
I would love to write you about an incredible new dvd, from two of the most clever and talented young magicians I have ever meet. On one side of the ring, directly from Spain, Daniel DaOrtiz, on the other side, a big man from Finland, Christian Engblom. The title of the dvd is an spanish sentence "Que Raro!", which means something like "How strage!" In the one hour and a half time of the dvd, you will find 8 complete routines, the best of these two great cardicians. Christian Engblom presents: - The End - The Last Corner - Cascade Control - Anti-Faro (Man, you must see this, maybe is the most incredible sleight nowdays) Dani DaOrtiz presents: - 5,4,3,2 and more - Magic Nine - Another Torn And Restored - Twin Souls Plus some fine extras. The dvd has been recorded completely in english, and is subtitled in spanish and finn. Believe me, I know both magicians, I have seen them performing many times, and I could say that nowdays, after Tamariz and Mago Migue, Dani DaOrtiz is sure the best spanish cardician, and sure also Christian is the best cardician in Finland. You will enjoy a lot this dvd, because it contains, great routines, well constructed effects, beautiful magic, killer magic, and new sleights you will never think it could be done with a deck of cards. Only Christian´s "Antifaro" worth the complete price of the dvd. You could buy it and see a demo here: http://www.kaps-store.com/escolano/RARO.HTM The main page is http://www.kaps-store.com They are preparing an english section also. All the best magic, Pablo Tejero

I have seen Engblom do all the stuff from the tape live many many times and they are very good. Still he would have much more orginal material besides two sleights. I also saw daOrtiz lecture about year ago and he has some really good chops.
The Engblom stuff from the tape consists of: The end: Ending to old rubberband routine by Michael Weber, popularised by Greg Wilson and Dan Harlan. In effect two rubber bands are streched between hands to make ladders and bill is put around the top strand. One at the time bill travels to bottom strand. Here is where the routine usually ends and it lacks the ending. Engblom solver this. In the end the bill melts of the bands when spectators are holding it. It looks really really good. Not so difficult to do either. The last corner: Is Engbloms variation on Harry Anderson monte and is maybe the best monte routine I have seen. I am not 100% sure if this is the new allmost improptu version or the older one but I remember Engblom fool Jeff McBride and Tommy Wonder completely with the ending in Finland few years back. Cascade control: is Engbloms variation of Charlie Miller control. Again I am not sure about the details but he used to have ways to stack pocker hands and all sort of stuff with this one when it was still in development. Anti-faro: a way to anti-faro a deck while just springing cards from hand to hand. Basically you can separate deck to reds and blacks. Faro them to each other and square the deck so the deck alternates red-black-red-black all the way thru deck. The deck is really squared. then you just spring the cards from hand to hand and every other card potrudes enough so you can strip out all the red cards from blacks. Extremely difficult but maybe it can be learned from video better than old genii description. The problem is alse where in the world to use a move like this. I know Engblom himself had only few things with it. Da ortz did at least magic nines on his lecture. In effect red cards constantly changed to black cards when they touched one single black card. It had some very nice moves and changes but required lapping and isn't so practical from that point of view. The other routines I havent seen or If I have I just don't remember their names. |

Completing what Korttihai reviewed:
5,4,3,2 And More: DaOrtiz where spectator picks a card, and loose in the deck. Then the magician pick one card which will indicate how many chances he will have to guess the card. As you could guess he has five possibilities, and, in each one, is closer to the right card... but when everyone is waiting for the right card appear at last...(i couldn´t write more, you have to see it). Twin Souls: Is a very beautiful and precious routine about card coindidences. A pure miracle. Another Torn And Restored: Is Dani´s handling of the classic torn and restored card, in a very beautiful routine, very well constructed. Quite difficult technically, but the effort worths the effect. The Magic Nine: As my friend said, the whole routine is a changing colors cards. Quite difficult too, but a killer routine in my opinion. All the best magic, Pablo Tejero PS If my opinion worths, this is a dvd I would buy without doubting it.

Any chance that the DVD will be cheaper for Americans. 40 Euro is a lot of dollars. That's the only reason I hate buying things overseas.

It's called "Traveling Cash." Certainly, there is no reason anyone should care, but just in case someone does... --Harlan BTW, the Engblom ending is great. He showed it to me in Finland a few years ago. |

I am still stuck with the antifaro.. it is very hard to get the knack..
in this dvd, Engblom mentions that his cascade control is insprired by charlie miller control. Where can I find this original Charlie Miller Cascade Control..?

It should be on Jon Rachenbaumers book card finesse vol.1. I think Engblom also says that on the DVD.
