Hello J.C.,
Greetings from sunny Rio de Janeiro. I have been performing Estimation since I first bought your Commercial Magic Video about 15 years ago- it is without question my favorite effect. Of all the versions you teach I have had the most success with the tabled ribbon spread version. I have gradually changed some of the handling and "outs". While the card under the glass is a fantastic out- I would always get credit for manipulation rather than thought reading. I now do the routine a little differently and would be honored to get your opinion. A shuffled deck is cut. Spectator chooses half he/she wants to use and that half is then spread. (I use half deck to ensure a wider ribbon spread and increase my odds of hitting with my first choice. The other thing I like about using half the deck is it prevents someone from just "naming" any card in the deck instead of actually looking at one.) I "fish" for the color but not the suit (I like asking just one question). I get down to 3 cards- 2 to the top (most likely choices); one to the bottom (third choice). Holding a double in my hand- once the card is named I either 1. turn to show it 2. replace double and let them turn over top card 3. replace card and deal a bottom (easier since I am using only a half deck) Hopefully you like some of these ideas..... You really inspired me and started on the road to Magic. Thanks so much!!!! Hopefully if you make it to Rio de Janeiro- the local Magicians can teach you how to make all the variations of Caipirinhas and other local drinks. Sincerely, David
It is hard to believe a man is telling you the truth if you know that if you were in his situation you would be lying.

Hi David, If half the deck works for you then use it as long as they no why you are using only half the deck! One suggestion, when you have the three choice's with two on the top and one on the bottom. like you said, why not just leave them on top instead of holding a double in your hand. If you know whats on top and bottom or you know all three, just make a double lift or turn over the top card or turn the deck face up to show them thier card. In the laymans mind it is the same effect with out all the work of a double. Try it and see if it makes a diference in thier reaction. Let me know what you think on this, OK?
Best, J.C.
Check out my magic here.

I too have had great reactions performing estimations. The fact that the video teaches many variations and some outs is awesome. You didn't skip any corners.
