Guys, Stevens Magic Emporium has some interesting stuff. They just posted 1 5/8" fakini sets (made in extremely limited quantities). They are somewhat of a closeup set. Also, they have some durania ball sets. Check it out. Too expensive for me right now, but I thought my fellow multiplying ball fanatics may want to pick these up before they are gone forever.

1 5/8" what? The Durania ball is a Steven's magic product, not Fakini. Stevens has the gimmick made by Viking and supplies with Fakini balls for the set. THis is the Richard Ross gimmick ball on his video by Steven's Magic. Steven's had so much demand that they were kind enough to the magic community to invest their efforts in suppling it for all.

Wmhegbli - I don't think he meant that the Durania was Fakinis - just my 2p.

When we at Douglas~Wayne made the effect for Stevens we made the s***l to fit the 1-5/8" Fakini balls as they were the best size for the largest numbet of people. Set included the special something, three white Fakini's and one odd color. Although this has come up before, to the best of my knowledge Viking/Collectors has never made the Duranias.
That being said, these are new "old" Durania shells, probably of European make, according to Stevens Web site. It is also a little different routine using multiple color changes, not the full Richard Ross routine. The Durania sets are an incredible bear to make and it is unlikely anybody will offer the full set for anything like the price Joe used to charge any time soon.

The set that Stevens is offering is the “basic” set (not the deluxe set with Ross’ full routine). The Durania gimmick is supplied with three Fakini balls. These gimmicks are some leftovers they found in their warehouse and are damaged/blemished (the price reflects the damage aspect).
You get a workable but slightly blemished Durania ball (a specially made gimmick) and three different colored Fakini balls and a forth “soft” ball for the gimmick and a video of the basic routine. Expensive? Maybe. The Fakini’s alone cost near the amount that is being asked for the whole set. I don’t know how extensive the blemishes are on the gimmick but you could always call and ask. If you want a killer multiplying ball routine then this may just be the way to go.

This is correct. Mr. Radtke did not make the durania shell, but Stevens uses his balls with the set. I just wanted to let my fellow manipulators know that this may be the chance of a lifetime!

All this being said about the equipment, the ability to use the durania shell will take a very long time of intense practice if you which to use the Richard Ross handling.
I was going by memory and thought I read that Viking was commissioned to make them, sorry for the improper credit. Douglas-Wayne was the original craftsman for Stevens Magic gimmick. (I hate being wrong!!) |

Wmhegbli,
No problem on the credit... and take my word for it, you can get used to being wrong! I know I have. You are 100 percent right about one thing. The Durania effect is NOT an easy one to learn to do- let alone well. I know we made over a hundred sets, there was a European run before we made them and to this day I have never seen anyone but Richard Ross (on tape) do them. Not saying no one has- I can't be everywhere- but it sure isn't seen much!
