Don't get me wrong I think the ring vanish to key case a great effect... but,
who actually carries a key purse around with them, apart form magicians! I don't think I've ever seen anyone carry one, maybe it's just my age, or where I'm from. But I don't think I could get away with using this effect without getting strange looks, it just doesn't fit with my style. What do you Guys and Gals think about using the pretty little purse? ;-) Ian.

I am 56 years old, and have always carried a key case. Many people I know do. It keeps the keys from jangling in your pocket when you walk.
If you always wear tight jeans, this isn't a problem. When you dress in business clothes, you can sound like a knight in chain mail if you keep loose change in your pocket or keys on a ring. Plus, key rings can be hard on your pockets. |

I carry a key ring....... that brings me to Steve Dushecks ringer .no pulls necessary just a simple slight and you have the same effect . this can be done in short sleves as well, and is repeteable as many times as you want .....

Magicians are not normal anyway, so what's the difference what you carry? No two people carry the same anyway... just DO IT... with Just IN Case (the best version out there)!! [blatant plug]

Peter, my father-in-law carried that squeeze type key case for years. I really do need to set aside some money and by Just in Case even as a reminder of him.

I think it is important to remember that the different versions of this trick really have different effects. The plot is the same, but the thinking and impact is very different from one method to another.
A vanish using a r*** or a p*** is one of the cleanest and most amazing vanishes possible. The original ring flite was designed as the most practical pull in existence, one that is not attached to the body, but is self-contained and the creates the perfect "discovery" for the vanished object. The trick can be seen as a vanish and recovery, or as a transposition. The presentation will change drastically depending on which of these is utilized. I always use the original ring flite. I have never had a problem with it in twenty years. You must have a good r*** and a great clip. I have never lost a ring or scratched or dented a ring, or broken the gimmick since finding the correct prop. The vanish is so much cleaner with the r*** than with the other methods. The ring vanishes under "test" conditions, practically visibly, and both the hands and the sleeves may be immediately examined and touched by the spectators. The discovery of the ring on the key chain is a strong conclusion. No lay person has ever figured the method out. It is one of the strongest tricks I do in close-up, and I do it in just about every close-up show in my routine "The gold ring, the watch, and Everything." The right patter should justify why the ring ends up on the key chain. |

Whit three questions...
1 can you perform this effect by showling your hands empty at the on set...? 2. can the effect be perfromed with out a jacket or short sleves??? 3 can the effect be repeted without re setting gimmick?/ no doubt ring flight is a wonderful effectand in your hands it is even more amazing... I will stick with ringer becausei can do this wearing only my chonies????????????????? lol vinny |

Thanks for the input.
I think that maybe it is an age thing, I'm 17 years old and from the UK, and I don't know of anyone of my age range (or other people for that matter) who do carry a key case. I carry my keys on a keyring. At the end of the day I think it's a personal choice, what works for one person wont work for another, the same way it would not work for me to use the big long style wallet in a card to wallet routine, because again it's not something that's really used a lot where I'm from (although I've seen more of them than I've seen key purses). Ian.

Young people don't usually have as many keys as older people who have office, house, car, and and wife's car, and children's keys. As I mentioned earlier, tight jeans are more suited to a key ring than dress pants--less jangling. They are sturdier in the pocket and less likely to have loose keys wear a hole in them. But you are right to consider your outfit, performing situation, and familiarity of your props. A large wallet or key case may not be appropriate to your age and dress. I always carry my passport with me in a "passport wallet." These are always the size of a Paul LePaul style wallet, and are familiar to anyone who travels. My LePaul wallet is made of alligator and designed to look just like a passport wallet. When I open it, and the passport is seen, it suggests that I am a performer who travels all over the world. Often people comment on why I carry my passport with me, but never on why I carry it in a such a wallet. I love to say, very deadpan, "Sometimes I have to leave town in kind of a hurry..." |

A few years ago (more than a few), one of the guys I worked with at the New York Lounge in Chicago had a bit of trouble with a husband and wife. He did Ring Flight and when he revealed the ring to them, they both swore up and down that the ring on the key ring wasn't theirs.
It went so far that the cops got involved. Fortunately, one of the cops had just come off of a rotation with the Bunco Squad and recognized them as a pair of grifters and nailed them on an outstanding warrant. It seems that they had tried the same thing in Toronto about three weeks prior and that they had gotten a warning about them. So, be careful out there, folks. Lee Darrow, C.H.

Don't use a woman's ring... try to always use a PLAIN "no stone" men's wedding band.

I'm totally into the idea of ring flight, and to respond to the question stated "WHY?" - we'll simply because spectators always finds vanishes and reappearance to impossible locations astonishing (Why card to wallet, why card to ceiling? why - well same reasoning). However I'm quite satisfied with the Al Baker routine ring, string and wand routine where Cliftons ring move is used to transfer the ring from the string to the wand (Daryl has a great handling on his Foolers Doolers DVD). Especially great reactions when you get the spectators to hold both ends of the string and both ends of the wand. I regard it as a poor mans ring flight - totally manual.
I use my r...s to vanish lit cigarettes and large paper napkins, so I cannot have more r...s attached to me, so I settle for the ring flight above as an endning to my ring and string routine (G. Wilson/J.S. Berry inspired). |
