Hmmm... I've been having trouble with keyboard tricks lately.
If anyone can help me manage to type the special e, to make the word Cafe, it be greatly appreciated! Mike. |

You can access the extended Ascii character set by holding down the Alt key and then typing the Ascii code for the character you want. This certainly works in Word, which is how I copied the é above. ( character 130 ) If you Google for Ascii Character Set you'll be able to see all the characters you wouldn't normally find on a keyboard.

Just hold [Alt Gr] and hit [e] and you get é
[Alt Gr] is to the right of the spacebar. I think it stands for Alternate Grahpic.

I am not certain, but I believe that typing the word without the accent will still be automatically printed with the accent.
I'll give it a shot, then come back to edit in a comment... Here goes: Café La voila! it works. |

Avrakdavra is correct, we put "Café" (without the accented e) into the bad words list so it would be replaced with the word Café. It's magic.

Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

[Alt Gr] is thé acceptéd méthod for typists réquiring only 2 kéystrokés.
[Alt Gr] also gives you € áéÃóú and ¦

Eric, as best I know, most of that stuff went away about the time of Daniel Webster in America, middle 1700's. Though we also have plenty of Germans here who kept their umlauts, we did not adopt the convention and went with simpler typography.
Also, in general, English tends to loot from its linguistic encounters
