J.C. you many times, almost with great affection and admiration, mention Dai Vernon. Can you share a story about Vernon with us? How you first met, maybe a funny story, did you fool him ( he said only Slydini could still fool him ).
He’s one of our favorites and so are you!!! Chris

Hi Chris,
The Professor and I met in 1970, when I joined the Magic Castle. He had seen me perform the Glorpy routine and thought so much about it, that he did a write up of it in Genii Magazine. It was a very proud moment in my life. We became more friends as the years passed by and onto a first name bases. I was working the close-up room one year, Larry Jennings and the Professor wanted to see my performance, so I got them in before anybody else and I did my show. In my performance, I used Marlo's Snap change, to change the wrong card into the mentality selected card. Well,I did it and I could see the look on the Professer's face, and he turned to Larry and wispered something. So I'm thinking, did I flash the change or what?! After my show everybody leaves, but Larry stays and say's; "Great Show J.C., and the Professor really enjoyed it too" I'm thinking, what did he say when I did the Marlo Snap change to Larry? So I asked Larry; "What did the Professor say to you when I did that Snap Change?" Larry says; "Come with me". So we walked out into the main bar and there is the Professor sitting where he always sat and he's holding two cards up and is going thru the moves SLOWLY of the change I had done in the show room! Larry say's to me; "He'll come up with a better way to do that change believe me!" That was the Professor for you, always thinking about how to improve on something. This was in 1989! He was 95 years old at the time! I miss them both very much and when I'm at the Magic Castle, I can still see them and feel their presence at that table, the one where they held court! Best, J.C.
