I'm thinking about checking out Chris's 3 ring routine / contribution to the moves.
There's : an exclusive DVD $25 (moves but not routine) a pamphlet $10 (routine not moves) and SoM Volume1 Number13 £7.50 (not sure what's in this) Since I'm in the UK, anything state-side is made expensive by post (Danny's insist on air post which is more expensive still). Does anyone have experience of one or more of these, and can compare them, or give an opinion ? The stuff I have in brackets is what I gather from the sales pitch for each work. I'm particularly interested to hear about the detail given in the SoM write up ? BTW : I'm not (only) penny pinching here, I'd like to know what's in each work without buying them all. I don't think anyone would pay for such duplication - or am I wrong ? |

Where did you hear that the DVD was moves, but no routine? It's on there.

Not sure how I managed mis-read this :
"Now for the first time, Chris teaches and shows you this routine on DVD." But I made a mistake, was going on what I thought I'd read on the Danny's web site. My problem with this site is that air post is likely to cost me more than the DVD, AND, I don't get to find out this cost until after I've confirmed the order - bit too "tricky" for my tastes. I'll go this route after exhausting the more transparent options. Would still like to hear from someone who has the SoM write-up ? |

Write to Denny. He's easy to deal with. If you're worried about "mystery costs" I'm sure he'll email you with the total before the order is placed. Just ask.
His address is on his website. dennymagic@aol.com

I learned Chris' routine from the New Stars of Magic V1 N13. It is well written with good photos showing all the moves. I have not seen the DVD so cannot comment on the contents. I guess it boils down to how you prefer to study magic, via written word or video/dvd.

I've had the pleasure of watching Chris work on multiple occasions and even though the routine isn't demanding technically, watching how he squeezes 10 minutes of sheer entertainment out of a 45 second silent routine is quite amazing.
As far as learning the routine is concerned, I agree with Mitch from his above post, its all up to how its easier for you to learn. But if you EVER have a chance to watch Chris work, take it. He's one of my favorite performers of all time. He's one of those guys you could watch for hours without tiring....

Thank you Eric. I'd love to see Chris in action. The same goes for several other performers, all of whome happen to be State-side of the pond.
Thanks Mitch too, I've decided to get the SoM write up, though I don't think there's any substitute for experiancing a performance taking place. Knowing how to do the moves doesn't really tell you how the moves should be done. Guess I'll have to take the long learning route / see what I can add to Chris's text. Greater magicians than I agree nothing can be added to Chris's handling. |
