Hi guys
I was just wondering if anyone here plays poker? Generally, if I am not working, rehearsing, or bouncing around at punk shows, you will find me looking for a poker game. Online, or live. So, anyone else with the same addiction? David

Steve,

I've been playing cards seriously since I was nine. I even got my start in magic due to my perpetual card playing. I'm not much a fan of the online stuff but I'm ALWAYS up for a regular game.

Hi guys
Glad to see there are a few other fans here Steve, I will be there. Just need to check the bus timetable to California. Do your friends have deep pockets? I try to avoid playing seriously with my own friends, but other peoples that's fine Jerry, I have to disagree, in the words of Doyle Brunson, "I came here to gamble". If you didn't you would never be able to call a thing without the pure nuts right there in your hand. You are always gambling on your own instincts, and your understanding of how other peoples minds work. I have called many a pot with potential flush's right there in front of me, but because I felt that my two pair had it, usually, I have been right. But He.ll, could I tell you of some times when I wasn't! Poker for me, apart from an obvious mind game. is an extention of what we do in life, and on stage. It a game of playing roles, taking chances, and going for it when you think the table is yours. Houdini Man, if you play at Partypoker, or Empirepoker, add 'uniquefreak' to your buddies there, and I will see you at a table! Cheers David

I haven't played in a long time. When I was living in Las Vegas, I used to call it "collecting Social Security." I'd find a nice $1-$4 limit table with the right kind of people at it.
The problem with playing with folks here, everyone knows I'm a magician. If I win big, that's not great, because people think something funny might have gone on; on the other hand, if I lose, people figure, "Some magician!" Anyone else play Anaconda when playing dealer's choice? I just love Anaconda! Yours, Paul |

Hi Paul
'right kind of people', hehe. Never heard of Anaconda myself. How is it played? I would love to play in Vegas sometime, I am hoping to be able to make some serious efforts to win a seat at the world series in the next few years. Limit is not my game, if possible I will always play No-Limit, its just, better Cheers David

In Anaconda, each player is dealt seven cards face down and the dealer calls pass right or pass left. Each player passes three cards. Each player discards two cards from his new hand and makes the best possible five-card hand. The cards are stacked face down and revealed one at a time, with a round of betting for each card. When the last cards are revealed, players declare high or low. The high and low hands split the pot. Aces swing (can be high or low).
Lowest possible hand is a six-high broken straight: ace-two-three-four-six. What makes this great is that you can arrange your cards to be revealed in a deceptive way, scaring off other players, like ace-two-three-four-ten; that might still win low. Also, If you are high and two guys are fighting it out for low, you have a lock on half the pot and just keep betting. Ditto if you are low and two players are fighting it out for high. Variants on this style are called Screw Your Neighbor and other things. This is obviously a Saturday-night-at-a-friend's kind of game, not for world class no-limit players. And hey, how about that hundred-foot rope escape with the challenge that you'll get out in less time than it took to tie you up? I offered this to a small crowd recently while holding up a hundred-dollar bill. I told them that they didn't have to put up any money. No one wanted to try! See, this is an escape-related post! Yours, Paul |

Hi Paul
Same game as Hi-Lo split then? Sounds like it is. I have done the keller tie as a cash challenge a few times, except that I have me, and someone out of the crowd tied the 'same' way. I let a couple of the persons friends tie me, and they are all about helping him to win Of course I get to tie the person who is challenging me, and I add a little something to the tie, its subtle, no-one ever notices I usually get out instantly, then get a lot of comedy out of them struggling for the next few minutes, of course by this time their mates are no longer dissapointed he lost, just happy to see his pained struggling. Sometimes though, I play it straight, and get out just a short while before the challenger, then pat him on the back and tell him he has the makings of an escape artist. Who would have thought that a chat about escapes would be off topic, this is supposed to be about poker! Cheers David
