Just learned the stack, getting pretty good at estimating locations and figuring out where cards are and such things. Just wondering if anybody knows any good, innovative tricks using the stack.

There are sooooo many wonderful effects. Check out Desert Brainstorm Series video(volume 2) for a neat application for the Si Stebbins Stack.

The Si Stebbins Secret is a way of secretly getting a deck into Stebbins order from new deck order. It can be done right in front of an audience under the guise of simply shuffling the cards. It's very neat, and easier than you might think.
The secret can be found in Darwin Ortiz' book "At The Card Table". |

I did a 3 hr. strolling gig on friday. I started with a new deck and opened another about halfway thru the event.
Each time, I did this right under the spectators' knoses and did a mind-blowing prediction. I admit I don't know any si stebbins tricks, really, so I just did this for fun. Opened up a brand new pack, shuffled the cards, spread them out on the table, asked someone to slide out a card, and peek. I gathered the other cards to isolate the selection and read their mind. I'm sure I'll do something different in the future but it's just so fun to do.

Why can't you just reverse the bottom half, move all the cards you need to, and do your two faros? It's just a cull!

Incorporate an Invisible Deck (ID) into the Si Stebbins Deck (SSD) routine. Bring out the two decks. Equivioque the SSD onto a spectator leaving 'your' ID on the table. Remove SSD cards and spread them in your hands, inviting spectator to choose a card. Spec takes card and leaves it face down on table. Magi turns SSD face up (noting first face up card - which tells him what the selection is!) Invite spec to place their selection, unseen, face down into face up deck slightly outjogged. Magi then removes ID cards and states, "Look, I already turned my card face down." Outjog the appropriate ID face down card. Reveal your ID card and comment along the lines of, "My face down card is the XX. Wouldn't it be amazing..." (oops - cliche) "...if your card was the same as mine?!" Dramtically reveal the specs card to be the same. Both are the only face down card in a (supposedly) face up deck.
Magic or metalism - you choose. I've had a lot of fun with this - try it. |
