Hi Everyone!
Just thought id share with you something that happened to me whilst I was performing at my wifes birthday party the other evening... I was performing a few different effects, started with a simple sponge ball routine (ive not long been learning sponge balls, so didn't want to run before I can walk!), then doc easons all screwed up, then onto the cards - impossible opener (can you tell I'm a doc eason fan?!), ambitious card, a few others... Anyway, I went to the bathroom (not to reset anything or set up anything! To actually use it for its intended purpose!) and remembered that I had my special assortment deck on me. Anyway, I had an idea...One of the guests was Irish, and so a simple set up of the "tree of diamonds" on top, followed by the "52 on one" card underneath and I was ready to go! I invited my irish friend over to the table and perfomed a simple f***e of the 3 of diamonds, follwed by the revelation that his card had jumped up to the top of the deck, snapped the fingers - and showed the "52 on one" card! - he was, unsurprisingly unimpressed. Anyway, I apologised, turned over the "52 on one" card (DL) and placed it to the side. I then told him that the snap has actually made his card jump out of the deck! - I then asked if he could see the card that had left the deck, he paused, said "no, well apart from that one" (pointing to the card on the table), I asked him to turn it over, then in the worst irish accent, I exclaimed "look now, its the TREE OF DIAMONDS"! Everyone was roaring with laughter and reacted so much better than I expected! my point is, that I was so surprised by the reaction a simple, silly trick like that got! I really enjoyed it! Anyone else been taken back by the reactions you've gotten from a "simple" trick? that's why I love magic so much, can bring so much happinesss from such a simple, but ultimately impossible (to laymen) situation! Be interesting to read your experiences! Justin

I am always amazed at the reaction I get from the magic coloring book. It is the least expensive of my props and everyone seems to enjoy it. Seems the simpler the effect the more enjoyment the audience gets. Never underestimate the power of a silly trick.

Good one, Justin! I've always had a blast with the various gag cards. I'm a big fan of the 3 1/2 Clubs card. That old gag can really be worked up.
That's great that you had so much fun with such a simple thing! -Reis |

Thanks everyone! weepinwill, yeah, I have the magic colouring book too! I agree, that gets some great reactions too!
Thank you Reis! Good to hear from you again! phread, with respect, if you read my post again, you will find that I did not make fun of my irish guest, I purposefully made a rather poor attempt to do an Irish accent in order to facilitate the revelation of the "Tree of diamonds" - I did not make any remarks or comments about irish people or my guest at all, he didn't take it that way, quite simply, because it was not intended to come across that way, and he was well aware of that, the most obvious consequence was that he was the one laughing louder than anyone! thanks again! Justin keep em coming! Thanks

I also get a huge reaction from the coloring book. I believe reactions can be helped or hindered based on the presentation!
