FYI: Found mini, rubber, billiard balls at Bed Bath and Beyond. They were approximately 2" and sold individually. Had every ball including the cue ball for $1.89/ball. Well made, don't look like rubber. Look like real thing but smaller. They're displayed in a large fish bowl near the registers.

Thank you, sir. Don't mind if I check these out. How is the grip? Is it a mirror finish (cling - same as regular high bounce balls or Fakini) or is it a matte finish (somewhat of a rough feeling)?

They probably will work fine for practicing and short term work. I often do this myself with super balls and such. The problem is that after a while, the rubber starts to breakdown and get hard and brittle. So just pay attention to that and you should be ok.

Even if you could find them again at BB&B, what would you use for a shell?

Get Buckley's Principles and Deceptions, in chapter 4 you will find 'THE PRODUCTION OF EIGHT SOLID BALLS AT THE FINGERTIPS WITHOUT A SHELL'
You can find this at the Lybrary.com JMN

I prefer a no-shell routine myself.
