Hi guys and gals,
Just thought I'd let you all know about my new show that I will be performing every Saturday night at Edgehill's campus in Ormskirk, Lancashire starting on the 17th Sept. It will be a night of escapes, comedy and general fun and games. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes and new pics and video should be coming to my site very soon. Just thought you may be interested. If you're not, well, at least by reading this you wasted a little bit of time you should have spent on working Take care and stay safe, Ros

Ros, good luck buddy! I can't wait to see the pictures! What is your show finale'? Milk Can? WTC? Burning Rope Upside-down Straitjacket? Steve Baker Challenge belt? Maybe something completely different and original? Anyway, break a leg!!! Cheers, Mike

New show`s,,,they scare me to death,it`s taken me twenty years to get a decent first show let alone another one!!!
Good thing about a run of work is by the time the run finishes your getting the act the way the punters want it,,,, that`s a bummer so you gotta keep working OK I drink to your success and wish you well. What`s this about a bag??? What`s Pat got to do with it!! Don`t tell her I said that,,,,,please. Ken. |

WOW!!! Thanks for the support guys. Means a lot.
So I've got 20 years before I get a resonable show eh Ken? Lucky I'm starting young then. As for the bag. Riley is on about my new body bag, which I'll be using as part of my closer. Thanks again and take care, Ros

Hi Ros
Good luck with the show. When I get back from China I am going to come along and see you. Can I have front row seats Akk... another body bag in the UK. I get the feeling we are all thinking the same way, I wonder if it can be anything to do with this place! See you soon David

And body bags are good. Maybe next week I'll let you all know another use for them. (Tease, tease)

Well its the day after the first run of the show and all went really well.
I opened with a few silly, non escape, comedy stunts. I even performed the human blockhead for the very first time using a teaspoon, so huge thanks to David and Slim who between them gave me the info, help and encouragement to be able to do it. This stuff warmed the audience nicely and led into my first escape which was from a pair of Bean Giants. I wasn't too sure how a student audience would take it, but they loved it. My partner in crime then took over the stage whilst I stuck some ice on my wrist and ran a few student friendly (ie alcohol related) games. This gave me a little time to prepare for my finale of the double straitjacket. I was only going to perform a single sj, but decided that I'd go for the double anyway. This was my first time performing the double and as fate would have it my audience helper happened to have experience with sj's. BUMMER!!! She wasn't what you'd call a small lass and really stuck the knee in to tighten me in. Lets just say the music finished and I was no where near out. I had the music re-started and had to call for water. The sweat was running off so much it was leaving pools on the stage floor. Finally I managed to work my arms free and reach the 2 crotch straps (one on the transport jacket, the other on the posey). It took me just over 6 minutes to shake the things off. But the roar from the crowd once I was out was huge!! They loved it. Talking with the bar manager after the show he said that the bar had never been so busy on a Saturday night... EVER! What did I learn? Well the first is that you shouldn't take anything for granted. Especially when it comes to spectators. The other thing is that if you commit 110% to what you're doing you will draw the crowd in with you. I'd never done any comedy before last night, but by committing to what I thought was funny the aud came with me and the material worked. The same with the double sj. I committed and it worked. Well, now its time to prepare for next Saturdays show. Ros

The audienced will always let you know what's funny, and you'd be crazy not to use it. Who needs to write comedy? They give it to us.

Talking of SJ's . . .
Those of you who know me are well aware I'm no authority on SJ's. I own only one (gaffed). A few years back I was asked to put in an appearance (?) at a St. Patrick's Night Supper at a local club. They wanted a SJ escape. I agreed. I would be on the way home from a private dinner EA thing (I really enjoy these..) and I figured I would I would just show my face on the way home. Well, on the day I felt lousy - the 'flu or something. I performed my first "gig" and just wanted to go home and go to bed for 24hours. But, the show must go on, right? I called at the Irish Club to do my bit. By now I was running a temp. I've always advocated a gaffed SJ and plenty of acting. Works for me. My volunteers threaded the arm straps thru' one of the back straps (a De-Val SJ). I wasn't too concerned. The extra effort caused the perspiration to really run down my face, and the escape really seemed to be an effort (more so than usual!). It got a tremendous response, the best ever, and a pint of Guiness was waiting for me after the release. More than one spec. mentioned to me afterwards that they really thought I was beaten What did I learn? I'd always acted with the SJ . . but not enough Sorry to ramble. Ros, your post reminded me of that escape. Nice work Ros. Don't forget to post re the next one!!!! Regards Riley |
