WOW, this name sounds great, the effect is great! Theres not many negative things I can say about this effect except one, overuse! I was at Monday Night Magic recently. For those of you who are unfamilier with this, it is the weekly magic show in NYC, great stuff, great entertainers. One problem, I saw three different professional performers do this same routine that night. It was the classic Ring and String, with the ring in envelope in wallet as the kicker ending. If three professional performers are using this same routine in each of their acts than something is wrong. People lets get some more originality!! Please soon!! I will not name the performers, but all of them are very smart and talented, don't ruin the ring effect by all doing the same thing. Please everyone comment on this and express concern over the lack of originality in Ring and String routines.

I can hardly believe they did exactly the same effect, unless this was what they are suppose to do for the business. My ring and rope routine is a compilation of many effects from various different sources. So, just because I use a ring and a rope, and someone else uses a ring and a rope, does not mean that we are all doing the same effect.
Then again it may be that all considers this effect their favorite and none wanted to leave it out of their close-up shows. It is an ego thing! |

Was this a magic show for laymen? If so, it seems to me that there was poor planning on the organizers' part.

Wmhegbli, even if they did different routines (with different moves), in the eyes of layment it's the same trick.
Imagine if everyone got up and did the linking rings, or the cups and balls. Yes, there's room for change, but it would get boring pretty quickly. What was the motivation for getting the ring into the sealed envelope? |
