Well I'll most likely be leaving the Bay area in the morning with Category 5 Hurricane Rita threatening a visit. Hopefully this won't be the Texas Gulf Coast version of Katrina. National Weather center: "Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass, Matagorda Island, Port Lavaca, Port O'Connor, Bay City, Lake Jackson, Freeport, Galveston, Texas City, SHOULD ALL PREPARE FOR A VERY DANGEROUS LANDFALLING MAJOR HURRICANE." I grew up in these areas and have utmost respect for Cat.5 hurricanes. Though she could turn on a dime, weaken, or strengthen overnight, she's close enough with winds up to 165mph that even the bravest are preparing to evacuate. Without going into personal details, I just want to say it's amazing how one's plans, no matter how good or sound, get delayed overnight. Reminds me of hearing someone say: "If you wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans"..... With expected landfall Friday 23rd at 1:00PM CST. many of us checkin' out this time. |

Now we get a chance to see what we've learned.

Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

That's a sin, everyone is getting slammed by hurricanes. I think we are doing it to ourselves. With all the pollution and ozone problems.

This is a plot by Al Qaeda.
I'm sitting in Houston, waiting to see what happens. So far, it looks like it will make landfall Friday night or Saturday morning somewhere near Beaumont TX. The evacuations from Galveston and Texas City were fairly successful. Until they got to Houston. There were some idiots in the DOT who forgot to turn off a few traffic signals. These caused some horrible delays and turned all the routes out of town into parking lots. People were sitting on the freeway, spending 8 hours to go 15 miles. They burned 3/4 of a tank of gas.

Our government at work!
What rocket scientist thought that you could dump 2 million people on the road out of town, and not have a horrendous traffic problem? The world's greatest lie? "I'm from the Government, and I am here to help you." BroDavid

This is a site I use often to check the weather in my own area. It is a good shot of the Gulf Coast. There is a click at the bottom left of the map that sets it in motion.
