This guy is really bad news. If he is sending these things Media Mail, then he is in violation of postal regulations. The rules for media mail are very strict. And the idea that he charges $10.00 for shipping is ridiculous. He could send those cups to any location in the lower 48 for $5.85, including the free box the post office will give him for priority mail.
I know he could get them there for $7.70, because they will fit in a fixed rate box.

Very true Bill, but as the buyer if you email him that exact information you would earn his neg. feedback remark calling you a bigot scumbag liar. Why Safeharbor has not removed him after numerous complaints is beyond all of us that have filed complaints against him.

He's not the worst seller that I've seen though. There is a hypnotist out of California that sometimes sells cheap magic tricks and videos. He is the worst I've ever heard of. I ordered a 25 tricks with linking rings dvd from him. I was going to give it away. I had to pay him by check because Paypal won't do business with him anymore. He refused to send the dvd. Safeharbor wouldn't do anything because it was less than $25. I got ticked off. I understand misunderstandings, broken in shipping, lost in shipping, etc. But taking a guy's money and not sending the product is nothing short of theft. I still have the endorsed check. At first he claimed that I hadn't paid. He left me a negative saying that I was a deadbeat buyer. Then he left me some kind of 'non-pay' strike until I faxed a copy of the endorsed check to ebay.
Then he started sending threatening emails, even threatening my wife. He tried to have pizzas delivered to my home, etc. This was amazing. Well, I'm from Texas and I don't lay down. I reported him to everyone that I could, the post office for fraud, several police departments, etc. He still sells there. Beware a guy named hypno-man. I wouldn't recommend buying from him. |

Just another perspective on eBay and postage.
I look on postage charges like I do hourly rate - neither matters. It's the size of the payment that counts. As long as the postage is clearly and prominently displayed, I never have a problem. The only thing that matters to me is what it costs to put it in my hands. If these cups are worth $20 then the breakdown is unimportant - if they're not worth $20 then the breakdown is unimportant. (Just a side note - GreedBay doesn't charge the seller a Final Value Fee on postage, so the more a seller can move to the postage side of the ledger, the better off he is.) sam |

I can't look at it at that way, Media mail is horrible, parcel post is even worse. When a vendor charges 9.99 for shipping and you recieve a media mail package that says 1.30 on it that is down right dirty business practice. For 3.95 cents a person could have the package in 2-3 and the sorry seller still skates with 6.00 and to boot the boxes are free.
The fact that ebay does not charge fees on postage is no justification for this and it's called Fee Circumvention or Avoidance on ebay. When a business has employees and a shipping dept. shipping and handling fees are understandble, but to charge excess fees in shipping and still use the cheapest method available will quickly earn you negative feedback on ebay, and in most situations its justified. Just my 2cents <--not applicable to any ebay fees Jake

Jake,
On one point we agree and I should have stated - the ad should state the shipping method and the seller should not use media mail when it is not withing the postal regs. I will say, I've used media mail (for "media") extensively over the past 2 years and found it, generally, fast and reliable. I've never had a package take over a week to any section of the country. I agree about Parcel Post. sam |

As Michael stated a ways up the thread, you do sometimes get some good deals. I got Michael Ammar's out-of-print Topit book (including the unused pattern) last week for a real deal (and an extra copy of Encyclopedia of Card Tricks, which is in the Let's Make a Deal forum, BTW, if anyone needs an extra copy).
As a rule, I don't bother bidding if the seller has less than 99% positive feedback. If feedback is less than 99.5% I always ask a question about the item and factor the quality of their answer into the mix.
Regards,
Eric |

Sometimes actually looking at what people said in their negative feedback toward a seller is enlightening. Negative feedback is sometimes the product of a bad buyer.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Read the feedback on "magicsale." He is a piece of work. Go to his feedback pages, click on page 8 and go halfway down the page. There are two feedbacks from "benestrophe" that will tell you the whole story on this guy.

while you are correct in your statement of be enlightend about buyers, sellers that rack up 50+ negs and only have a 1000 or so rating leaves you to wonder, especially when the negatives come in a confined block of time. We have over 8000+ positives and 11 negatives, that is definately a number we can live with as an ebay seller. A lot of neg. feedback out there is retalitory. A lot of buyers buy on implulse on ebay, face it, sometimes the tension and excitement for an item can get out of hand, kinda like Bill Palmer and I bidding against the same set of cups , during this implusive bidding a lot of buyers don't read the fine print or description accurately. Sometimes it that fault of the buyer and sometimes the sellers use a borderline misleading listing description. Ebay in my opinion does it's best to police both buyer and sellers and catch on a lot quicker now to scams and bad sellers as compared to 2 years ago. The particular person in question that started this thread is absolutely horrible. The feedback he leaves for others that are not pleased or even so much as question his shippin methods or an items condition or origin will recieve very nasty neg. Feedback. From experience the following are bombs from this guy: Silver Chop Goblet (can we say a glob or rubber cement) Ring Flight (OMG, at least send us the reel so we can engrave over the Ace Hardware logo) Glass Cups and Balls (While they are between 30cents and 60 cents each these little pups have some potential for teaching, I have a set with a crystal wand and some Cubic Z diamonds and 3/4" crystal balls, with the light it looks beautiful and draws a lot of very nice comments, worth the few bux you spend on them) Time Will Tell (My lord stay away from this one from him, a rip off for sure.) Occasionaly he will be selling "collectors cups" such as RNT Copper Monti cups, not RNT II but RNT cups, they were actually old Morrissey cups, when sent the proper information about the cups we were politely told in his own way to well go have unatural reproduction with various things. Beware the Penguin cups that sometimes pop up on his auctions as Original PF cups (sorry for the abbreviation we promised Pete and Joe we wouldn't say Paul Fox anymore =) If there is ever someone you can count on to visually indentify cups you know it's Bill Palmer, I'm sure if you emailed him he would be glad to help you and guaranteed you would not get the response from Bill you would this sorry ebayer. As a rule of thumb, I always ask questions when a particular rare piece shows up as MINT. I like to get emails with explanations from a seller with their idea of MINT. Believe it or not, MINT varies from seller to seller. A lot of sellers use MINT RARE HARD To Find (HTF) and other keywords to attract buyers and again falls under what the sellers idea of Mint is. Bottom line it's always good to ask questions, it protects both the seller and buyer in the end. While there are a lot of scams on ebay like Michael Baker posted, you can really get some good deals. Mario recently auctioned some Abbotts rice bowls, MINT, they were actually RNT BOWLS in Mint cond, sale price was 55.00 very good price for a set that was brand new. Watch for ads, where some sellers state I'll toss in some stuff I'm not sure what it is. These can be really great, the last time this happend the young man who had no idea what the items were tossed in a MW Caballa and MW color cube release along with some "silver owen palming coins" Well worth the 15.99 lot purchase price. All in all Ebay is a great place to buy, sell and make friends or find others that share interests that you share. Don't let the bad ones discourage you, just be thankful for Steve Brooks for having the Café so everyone can look out for each other. Jake

Regarding the Silver Chop Goblet -- that is a real scam. He uses the term "Sterling Silver Plate." They ain't no sech a thing. It's either silver plate or sterling silver.

That's true. The main thing you have to look out for is liars. There is a fellow advertising a set of cups right now. He has a zero feedback rating. The photos show a set of Mark Burger's engraved silver cups. But what he is actually selling are chrome plated plastic ones.

I bought my Johnson cups on eBay. They had a couple of small dents in them but the description pointed that out. Four cups for around $200. One of the cups a chopped one. It was from a magician in California that just bought Sherewoods.

That was a good deal. I've gotten some excellent deals on eBay. And I have gotten a few bad ones.
