At the end of the Dan Harlan "band shark" DVD there is an English man doing very strange things with a handkerchief in front of a room full of children. I thought it was quite pecular, and I'm sure it would not play well in this country with any audience.

Sounds like Quentin Reynold's Pocket Handerkerchief routine,(if it is him, he's Irish) he makes a mouse at the end. I suppose with a tea towel you could make a rat?!
Another one you can do with a hanky is a ballerina. You tie a knot in the middle of one of the sides then hold it by the 2 far corners and twirl it. You can make it dance then do a kick and spin. Don't know if it works with a tea towel. George |

Don't know if it helps, but I took the wife on a cruise back in January. The room steward made us towel animals every afternoon and placed them on the bed (except for the monkey. it was hanging from the light fixture and wearing my sunglasses). The cruise line (Carnival) sells a book showing how to make these critters and I couldn't help myself.

The crew also did that on the PCAM convention at sea I just returned from. Norwegian was the line. Made a rabbit, an owl and others out of our wash cloths and towels. A nice touch. A great convention. A fun cruise.

Excellent web site. I always wondered how those Mexican maids were able to fill my hotel room full of Elephant shaped towels. Now can you give me a web site that will show me how those Mexican waiters make those fan shaped cloth napkins? Also George I'm sure Quentin Reynold is a fine magician, I just don't think that mouse handkerchief routine crosses the pond well, and I should have been able to tell the difference between an Irish accent an English accent. Al, having never seen any of Mr Reynolds material apart from the hanky I have no idea as to whether he is a fine magician or not, I do like the mouse routine though. Having never played to an audience of American children I cannot comment on the cultural differences, however, the amount of american magicians in the Café who claim to be having much success with the routine would lead me to deduce that you may be wrong in your assumption.
To make a fan shaped napkin you concertina half of it, then fold it in half perpendicular to the concertina, then fold diagonally across the unconcertined part and tuck the overlap into the bottom. It should now fold out into a fan with a stand. George |

I guess it's a matter of style, I'm more of an in your face comedian, and not a very good story teller. I'll give that napkin fan thingy a whirl, the way they do it in Mexico it just opens up like an umberella. Al

Thanks George!
I've always wondered how they did those things but never remembered to search for it when I had the time!

Wow that's it. That is the very same elephant, and swan's the maids in Mexico put in my hotel room. Whoda thunk that those Mexican maids in Puerto Vallarta bought both of those DVD's.
