For us, we use it in a larger routine. Include many costume changes. Since it is not the main aspect of the routine people don't notice that we never removed the last sword. One thing we did do, is that we never replace the swords. After letting the full one sword suspension sink we, I lift her off the sword at the same time a stage hand removes the sword from the base. That way the base is left empty at the end.

We bought a Sword Suspension a couple of months ago and are now putting it into rehearsal.
I've been able to place the assistant on the sword by myself and take her off again without looking awkward!! Look forward to using it in the show. We're not sure what to do for costuming? Any good ideas out there? I'd like the costume to look a little more modern, rather than go to a classical themed look. I'd love to hear everybody's input. Michael Berends

Mike;
Costuming for any type of illusion involving the same methodology of the Sword Suspension is VERY important as we all know. One thing that we have done is added a peice to the rear of our costume. Ours is a white satin like one peice bathing suite. Our main issue was her back side sticking out. In order to cover this, just at the small of her back we attached a peice of matching material in the shape of a diamond. The top most point being cut off horizontally. A few inches above the middle line (middle line meaning if you were to draw a line from the two side points acorss the center.) This peice hangs down and covers her areas on the bottom where anything may show. Hope this helps in some way. Matt |

Hey Matt,
Good to hear from you... Thanks for the input on the costume. We still haven't put it in the show because of the costuming. We should be looking to get it in there soon. Mike

I've seen a sword suspension on a board just like the chair suspension. Perhaps this could be used for a volunteer. It would seem more amazing and dangerous than the usual chair suspension routine. The volunteer is wrapped with the usual cloth so that nothing is exposed to the audience. What do you think?
I've sold my Chu's Sword Suspension many years ago because I could not find an agile assistant who could hold her legs straight for two minutes. The board idea was my next step but I gave it ip anyway. There are too many carnival magicians who use this illusion in my area.
