I recall seeing a review recently of scissors ideally suited to C&R rope effects - sharp blades, rounded ends etc. Possibly reviewed in The Linking Ring. Can anyone jog my memory or let me know if they are aware of any such scissors ?

Not familiar with the Linking Ring article, but I like Wiss Model 166....round tips, cutting edge about 2-3/4". They're forged here in the States, may not be available on that side of the pond for reasonable prices.

Check out Klauss scissors. They are an industrial manufacturer of tools. I have a Klauss scissors from many years ago and it is still going strong in my C&R rope routines.

I'm looking for a large, all-stainless steel pair. It seems like the really good ones are dressmakers' scissors, so I'm going to try a couple fabric places. Can anyone confirm - are the best quality scissors German-made?

Try bandage scissors ,real ones that nurses use. I am a nurse.Rounded ends, cutting edge not too long or too short, high quality steel that keeps its edge, ergonomic shape, not expensive ( contrary to belief nursing isn't really a high paying profession).I use mine, they work great.

I've been looking around on the internet with no luck so far for a pair of cut/no cut scissors. Mine are gold in color and lock both in the closed or open position. Can anyone direct me to the right dealer?

Thanks for the link, Larry! I'm having trouble getting past the opening page, but this is probably just a temporary thing.

Clauss scissors, the pair I have used for 40 years is at the bottom on the page picture. The 1st pair on the left. They are about 6" long. Stay sharp.
http://www.claussco.com/indexx.htm I see the company has been bought out like most companies these days, by Ripey Company. |

If you are looking for really big scissors try the "presentation" scissors used for grand opening and ribbon cuttings. Not great for cutting tough rope but great for gags and limited cutting use.

I just bought a pair of Gingher heavy duty chrome scissors from Joann.com - if anyone is interested, they have a 1/2 price sell on any one item right now. The model I bought is used for cutting leather and heavy fabrics. I bought the $43.00 scissors for $21.50 plus tax/shipping.
I should be receving them anyday now. Ron |

Found my old pair, and I believe they're from Supreme as well. Can you get these anywhere these days (it seems you can't even get them in the ungimmicked style):
Radiant [G]olden Age Rustless made by Richards of Sheffield England is the brand. I've lately seen some Cut No Cut Scissors on the web, the closest to what I'm looking for are, it would seem, here (and they DO cut the rope). I'm less sure about these here, as the ad does not explicitly state that they can thereafter be used to cut the rope. Have fun! |

Regan ,they usually sell them in uniform supply stores .Look for one that sells police and paramedic supplies. I also have seen them in nurses uniform shops. Glenn

Another source for good cutters is the small bladed gardener's trimming shears. They'll cut thru a tree limb and they're lockable and spring operated, which makes things easy. You can grind the tips round with little effort if you've got access to a grinder.
These run $4 or under at Big Lots.
