Ok! I am officially now a Macophile. I got a G5 desktop and I will be slowly learning mac language.
I still am a little frustrated in the imovie program, there are online manuals but I am a see and watch/learn type of person. Any recommendations on help with this? Any real person tutorials available? (step by step) I love the snapshot thingie--my kids were getting their pics taken with warped heads etc...with the effects! It's great. Ellen |

Welcome to the Dark Side! Well, according to some people anyway. Not me. . . I love my Mac. Both of them actually.

Welcome, Ellen! I crossed over sometime ago, when Amigas were getting harder to find.
iMovie is fairly simple to learn. Try clicking and dragging everything, you can't really screw it up. Atomic Learning has a video instruction series for iMovie 2. This is about 3 versions back, but the basics are still the same. They have updated lessons for iMovie HD, but you have to subscribe to them. |

Thanks for the imovie links. We'll see how I do after playing with it for a few weeks. Here I go! Ellen |

Welcome to the Mac Side of the Farce, young apprentice. You are to be called Darth EllenPanther from now on!
How many Windows developers does it take to change a light bulb? Answer - Redmond won't allow them to work with dark matter - that's only for Microsoft in-house developers to work with until such time as Bill Gates allows a beta test version of the burned out bulb to be released to the public. Until that time, anyone found with a burned out light bulb will be subject to immediate legal action from Microsoft's legal department for violation of their patent and trademark. And remember, Microsoft is about to release their NEW operating system! It combines all of the "power" of their earlier versions of windows - ME, CE and NT. They're calling it WINDOWS CEMENT - Thick as a brick and twice as slow! (with a tip of the topper to the comic strip "User Friendly and J.D. "Illiad" Frazier) Lee Darrow, C.H.

Just be careful. It starts with iMovie. Then you'll find more things you wish it did, and you'll buy Final Cut Express. Then eventually you'll need Final Cut Studio.
You'll tell yourself that you don't have a problem. You can quit any time. But you know, deep down, that you've come to depend on the Mac, and can't imagine working with lesser operating systems. You will learn that Steve Jobs is a true magician, who knows how to get you to open your wallet, take out your credit card, and send him money. I speak from experience. Cool, Geoff!
You're absolutely right....except I skipped final cut express altogether and went for Final Cut Studio....I got a student discount. My video palette has increased by 500%. "Motion 2" is the most amazing compositing app ever!!!!

Well, I early this year I went the other way ... from Mac to PC at both work and home -- neither move was by choice. Some of the software I need for my work is only available for PC. I miss the Macs terribly.

The power these days is in home networks. Apple does not figure in this field.

Forgetting the fact that Apple makes Airport specifically for home networking of your broadband connection, USB printer, computers (yes, both PC and Mac) and stereo quickly, wirelessly and with minimal hassle, I'm still wondering what you were trying to say in your post. |

I'm still wondering what you were trying to say in your post. That you don't see Apple in server rooms!

You can network multiple macs to multiple pc's in just a few clicks (windows sharing, systemprefs)
Have you ever tried networking pc's together? It's like digging an ant farm with a soup ladle. COMPLETELY unecessarily difficult. Yet another thing Ellen won't have to worry about ever again. Mac bashers are funny to me. They insult a computer that is completely intiuitive, completely user-friendly, extremely powerful, and virtually UNCRASHABLE! (at least, in my experience of 1500 hours of multi-layer video compositing and hundreds of hours of music recording I've never crashed ONCE.....) Macs rule.
