Jamie D. Grant V.I.P. as seen in Ripley's Believe It or Not! Twice! 2413 Posts |
Hi All!
I am currently reading Joel's book 'How to Persuade People' and quite like it. Where can I find more info about Joel? Being rather far from his area of the States I don't think I'll ever see him at a trade show but am wondering what his act is like in the trade show setting-has anyone here seen him at a trade show? And, if so, what was he like? From reading posts here on the Café it sounds like he does a great T & R newspaper. I'm thinking of getting into the whole trade show game and was just wondering what the pros do... Thanks for reading! django

Great book isn't it.
He also Has a DVD and another book but it's a large paperback and goes with the DVD (but he mostly sells the DVD by itself) I bought the book second hand so sorry good luck trying to find it. The book is on the business side of Magic and is a little bit different that a lot of the courses around. as for trade shows--- The "pros" usually keep to themselves and don't help much- but you'll get a few people trying to help you. check out a good video-- Eddie Tullock--- He is a great trade show performer I would avoid the Bill goldman DVD set it sounds fantastic but it isn't --- there is not much useful info here- just stories that don't help. |

Hi django:
You can still find video copies of his Torn and Restored paper routine. You'll get an idea of Joel Bauer's personality on this tape; he is quite sure of himself - I enjoyed watching him! Somebody here compared him to a fast talking, used-card salesman, and I thought that was pretty accurate. He really is a hoot to watch. He's said that he blows everyone away when he's on the trade show floor, and I believe him! Ron |

My greatest fear was working a trade show across the aisle from Joel until I did it. Now I just have nightmares about the experience. Joel works very "strong" although there is little magic performance in his presentations these days. I always stop and watch Joel and learn something every time even though his style is not my style (I don't think anyone could duplicate Joel's presentations).

David's right about the Goldman videos although the Bar & Grill publication he put out is full of good advice and great material. My main advice to some who wants to enter the corporate market is - "Become comfortable in the corporate world". If you are magician who wears a blinking rabbit on his lapel then the corporate market likely is not for you (although Karrell Fox was an exception). One of the things you can learn from Joel is dress the part and act the part - if you want to work for executives look, talk and act like an executive.
