I'm looking for some fun and silly ways to describe who I am and what I do when I introduce myself to a crowd. I perform my magic in the guise of con man "revealing" the secrets of his trade. Some of the ideas below are phrases people have used to describe me...some are my own. I would pick and choose to suit the event.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Nicholas J. Johnson and I will be your entertainment for this evening. Some people have refered to me as ....
...but I prefer the term "con artist" Any ideas? |

There are a few movies you may pick up some ideas. Try house of games, grifters and matchstick men. As I recall they have some colorful terms that might fit your style.

I think the line might work better the other way around as a con-artist would prefer to be known by another term. i.e:
"Some people have refered to me as a charlatan. Some people have refered to me as a con artist. Some people have refered to me as a something I can't say in front of a family audience (but if you get some on your shoe you have to poke it off with a stick) but I prefer to be known as: * A truth economist * A one man cash relevency agency. * Honest Nick * a magician on a higher salary. * a modern day Robin Hood...without the hood...or the bow...or all that rubbish about giving to the poor. " George |

Danny,
I really like that idea, But for some reason, I think that Listerine would be recognized by more people. Or maybe even,"You might consider me... mouthwash for the truth." Peace, Parson

Ok Parson,,,,thanks for the kind words.....BUT you misunderstood me.
By scope I meant depth, scope as in a larger scope!!!! NOT mouthwash. Never mind sorry but it makes sense if you follow it through.

Harry Anderson's club intro is the best I've ever heard. When I get over this whole conscience thing, I may consider stealing it. But right now I've too much respect for the guy and would feel bad.
Or just get a pre-recorded voice-over of a deep throaty announcer, like Copperfield has done. After the build-up, it says Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome (switches to an obviously different voice, a spliced recording) your name. Hope that rambling in the second paragraph made sense. If it didn't make sense... oh well. I'm hungover. Doesn't matter to me much.

I didn't get the scope thing either, I thought you meant scoop. The mouthwash thing did get me thinking though it might be fun to do a routine with a glass on the table that apparently contains a truth serum. Drinking it so you can divulge your secrets and then fooling them occasionally under the guise of it running out then taking another sip.
I like Nathan's recording idea. George |

The original idea I used (until about a week ago) was a recording of a RAT PACK, LIVE! Cd... "And now, here he is, the host of the show, direct from the Bar..." and my name inserted. (it was originally Dean Martin). The sad part is... the direct from the bar thing is true. For both Deano and myself.
(salutes the jack daniels to all fellow magicians in a happy "im glad I have this job and these fun people to chat with on the magic Café" attitude) P.S. where's my jack drinkers out there? Jack tricks? Ideas? While I'm on this.............might be illegal as hell to make, but I'm gonna do it anyway........... an "Airborne" with a flask. Betcha hadn't thought of that before... hehehehe. PPS or is it PSS.... or PMS.... cheers.
