I have noticed that there seems to be a very wide range in price for these... why is that? I have gathered that some are motorized and some are not, and some are larger than others, but other than that is there much difference? Is there a difference in methods, effects you can do (other than being able to put it down and still have the silk melt through), or in deceptiveness? Thanks!

It depends what kind of quality you're looking for. I have one made by Mikame and it is made with real glass. It looks like an antique piece. It is m*******d. Howevr, you can only show the back of it before and after. Some allow you the ability to show both sides during mid-penetration.

Plastic, rare woods, etc. Why difference in price? Materials, quality, workmanship, size.
Why do you pay more for a cadallic then a Honda automobile, they both use a key to start the engine and all you do is sit there and drive. One is larger then then the other, but other than that there is not much of a difference. They both go down the road. |

This is one of those areas where shopping counts. Look at your needs first. There is no reason to pay for super adequacy in this prop if you are really going to use it. It must fit your show. That will include size, colors, materials. If it doen't fit and is free, you don't want it. If you can't afford what you want, wait or change your show to something else.
The most expensive tennis shoes in town are out of place at a true formal. Your audience could care less what you paid. They are interested in how it played. It's a prop in the show, not the show. The only differences that count are the ones you can use. Tske good care of the magician. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Thanks for all of the replies. Yes, I understand that there is definitely a difference in craftsmanship between products, but the reason that I made this post was because I have seen some of them advertised at $60 brand new, and some at $550 brand new. I really like this effect and want to get one, but it is tough when you are not able to see it before you buy it, and at this point that is pretty much what I am going to have to do (I don't expect my local magic shop to bring in an item that retails for over $500 just for me to see if it is any good or not). So I guess what I'm looking for is anyone who has seen and used some of the different ones, and whether they have any insight on whether one was a better buy than the other, based of course on things such as durability, deceptiveness, etc.
Thank you, and have a good night. |
