FCpreacher,
Fakini himself advises washing the billiard balls with baby shampoo to remove the built up skin oils. It makes them cling like new. |

Thank you Stanyon and Townsend for the advice. I have owned several sets through the years and have taken excellent care of them by washing and properly storing them. Unfortunately, the mirror finish still wears with time. Besides, I have strangely moist hands. I have found that straight rubber balls work best for me and I have a special way of preparing my hands 1/2 hour before showtime.

I would just like to add that the Daytona Magic set of 1 1/2" comes with 4 balls & 2 s****. FCpreacher provided a link above.

Do you have these, Rallo? If so, how do you like them? Richard Mendez has them and says they're decent, but I wanted to get another take on them.
Let me know, FC |

Just to clarify, in my above post I wasn't recommending the Empire golf ball set over the Fakinis. I just thought it would ba a good way to get a feel for what size you want. Because they are 1 5/8", if you want them a little smaller you go for 1 1/2" and if you want them a little bigger you go for 1 3/4".

“Unfortunately, the mirror finish still wears with time.” This is true the mirror finish on silicone balls is only temporary. As you work with them they will develop a station finish. The finish will develop very quickly if you bounce them. They are a little more clingy when bran new but with washing most of the clinginess comes back. These balls are pretty easy to palm (not nearly as easy as Vernet), but their main strength is how well they bounce. If you have bouncing in your routine then Fakinis are great. |

Thanks for the info, Carbone. I use white rubber bounce balls and they work excellent for me (a lot cheaper for the tight budgeted magicians as well). Give them a try. You may convert.

I also have often used regular 1 3/4 hi bounce balls in various colors. This allows me to do intricate color changes and changes from a colored ball into a colored silk and back again. Because the cost is so low, I can buy them easily and use them for a while with ease. Then if they get brittle, I can just go out and get more at my nearest store.
They certainly are not Fakini by any means, but they have a pretty nice grip to them and the colors I find are pretty vivid and show up well on stage. It is an easy way for me to develop new ideas without the overall expense of getting fakinis in every color I want. Kyle

I got my Fakinis today. Can't wait to start practising. I followed the advice given here on the Café by buying regular bounce balls. I have been practising with them for vanishes and some flourishes. It will probably be a dream to handle the Fakinis instead. And I am really looking forward using the [ for the first time.
If only this work day will end. =) /Ark

Now that I have two sets (grenn and pink) I now realise what all the fuss was about. I actually got a set on ebay, so it's worth doing a search every so often,

I got a set of Fakinis this week and they are wonderful. Thanks to all who helped make the decision!

I bought a set of fakinis a few weeks ago and took them with me to work this week. I thought I could parctice while lounging in my cabin on the ship. Thank goodness I did bring them because while unloading a ship last week I pulled my back out. I found that by laying in bed with a fakini ball under my back I was able to massage my aching back. It wasn't as good as my wifes magic hands but it was better than nothing and I was able to escape from my straight jacket last night during the show. Today I was jacked up pretty bad from it,,to be continued, it's time to board my plane.

Sorry to hear your back got messed up. However, it just goes to prove that the power of Fakini goes bwyond just magic alone. In all seriousness, I hope your back is doing better and you get a chance to work with your new billiard balls. you will absolutely love them. What color and size did you guys get?

I bought the one and three quarter, white.
I wasn't able to finish what I was saying earlier. The balls also helped me lay around. I don't like laying around but I had something to do that helped me keep my mind off my back. Plus, I took your advice, Kyle, and bought a rubber super bounce ball, about 2", from Walmart. I am having fun working on manipulations with just one ball. I have chosen music and some basic ideas on where I want the routine to go. It has been a long time since I have worked up a new piece so this is allot of fun. The fakinis are everything I expected. Fantastic.

You are most welcome. I use the super bounce balls for color changes and other effects. I also use them to practice with from time to time and tell my SYM students to try and use them first before investing in the Fakinis. The super bounce balls have a similar grip to Fakinis and can work wellalong with them. You just have to change them out from time to time.
If I can give you some tips or offer some advice for you.let me know. I got alotof useful information for single ball moves and ball and silk moves and I can share some of that information and resourceswith you. My pleasure and have fun learning. Let me know what type of routine you are working on with them. Kyle
