If you find comedy magic easy you are truely a gifted performer, but as gkfreed said "dieing is easy, comedy is hard". What works for you in Halifax, or Yarmouth won't necesserily translate to a big city audiences.
have fun

It's pretty easy huh? Then why aren't there a lot more successful comedy magicians... Why isn't everyone doing it? Why haven't I heard of you? I have heard of Mac King, The Amazing Johnathan, and Michael Finney... they all think it's pretty hard... that's why it has taken them years to master...

If you think comedy magic is easy, then please let us all know what we are missing. Also, please let us know when you are gonna be on The Late Show, or The Tonight Show. I think we can all agree these are at the top of the comedy entertainment ladder. I want to watch!

as far as Nathan Allen's post, I read it as a joke... but I could be wrong.

I believe the point is if you want to mix 2 arts you had best put enough effort in EACH of them to be good at the final product.

if not either you won't be THAT funny or your magic won't be THAT good.

this is why it is tough and so many guys fail.

You're close, if you don't put enough effort in each, neither will be good. Generally the bad will bring down the good, the good will not elevate the bad.

I have dedecated a few years of my life to getting comedy right, so your joke made the comedian inside of me get serious. Oh well if I can't take it I shouldn't be dishing it out.

Like I said - I was hoping you were joking.

If you use magic effects built in for for comedy, do you just improvise and use your personal style to get the laughs? I have been successful in the past by letting my personality and quick wit get them laughing.

Just watch the Amazing Jonathon about 500 times and you'll be set.

Yea, every one of those performances will have the exact same words and routines in it.

THAT is exactly what makes him good

Sorry if I insulted anybody. Yes, the tongue was planted firmly in the cheek. No, I wasn't serious. Yes, I was just kidding around.
It was meant in the same tone had I said, "To be a master magician, just buy a TT and a stripper deck."
I'm sure my respect and admiration for comedy magic is equal to the other fine folks here, and I DO know how many hours (days, weeks, shows, years, etc.) it can take to hone a good laugh-filled 5 minute set. I, too, have notebooks upon notebooks filled with ideas, thoughts, and lines.
No, you haven't heard of me. I don't yet consider my act good enough to be nationally known. Frankly, I'm quite comfortable perfecting my act at dozens of company parties and small bars in Iowa. It's fun.
Peace,
Nathan
