I emailed them around 8 o'clock this morning (central time).
I realize there are time zone issues.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Hey Chris,
Great to hear from you too. You still got a stage show? I remember how impressed we all were when we saw yours...ten or fifteen years ago now? A natural who obviously put in a lot of work... When are you coming home? Here's the update from me on the Jedinat cups. We have been in email communication, and apparently they only ship to US addresses via UPS. So for me, that was going to be 100,00 EUR for shipping. I was sad. Wish it was less to ship, but that's what I get for living here... |

Hi Jason,
Oh man, thank you so much for those kind words. Has it been that long?!?! My goodness. I still have the stage show, but it's been sitting on the shelf for about four years now. I always "steal a glance" at it from the corner of my eye, itching to perform it, but there's a lot going on here in LA. I don't even have my doves with me. Andy Amyx adopted them. Anyway, I'll be here for as long as the film industry asks me to. Looks like you're doing street style cups and balls in your avatar. Wow. Your close up is so kick-butt, I can't wait to see your act. Next time I'm visiting Hawaii, please let me know where you'll be performing so I can do so. (whatcha got there? Gazzos?) As for the Jedinat cups....Next time, feel free to contact me. You can have an order sent to me in LA and I can send them to you in HI. It'll get there much faster. I may be ordering some mini-baseballs from him soon, so if there's anything you need, let me know. |

Oh...since this thread has been resurrected, I should update everyone: I ended up going with Mega Thick Tall Animal Cups from Gary Knights. These things are great. Rugged and tough in composition, but very elegant in look. Thanks to Bill and Greg McNeil for all the advice on them.

Before anyone asks, the Tall Gary Animal Cups were a very limited edition. They are not currently on the market.

Maybe they put the cups in the ocean mouth down.

I'm sure they reached them within a week or so of their post.
BTW, the Seidl cups are being manufactured again. Willi Seidl, Jnr. (the correct Austrian abbreviation for Junior) is currently manufacturing all three sizes of Seidl cup. They come in an antique bronze/copper finish ONLY. You can get them through Jimmy Bix http://www.jimmybix.at/ . When ordering from European dealers, please bear in mind that their office hours are anywhere from 6 to 9 hours later than our equivalent time, depending on which part of the country you live in, even later if you live in Alaska or Hawaii. If you send an e-mail at 8:00 in the morning, and you live in California, that may be 5:00 PM. They may not get your e-mail until the next morning. You have a choice. You can wait until they have the information you need and reply with the correct answer or you can make unreasonable demands on them and let them give it a stab in the dark. Be patient. Give them a few days to get back to you. Also, please bear in mind that very few of the dealers actually do their own metalwork. It's not like the good old days of Conradi-Horster where there was a spinning machine in the back room and a bunch of old world artisans working day and night to produce the items in the catalog. Back then, you were lucky to get a reply in two weeks, because you had to deal by mail. If you absolutely must have an answer right now, call them. Be sure to look on their web site to see when they are likely to be in the office. In Germany, the open hours will be listed as Offnungszeiten. In Spanish, it may say Abierto (Walid can correct this!) Also check your spam box. You may have a message waiting for you and not even know it.

Hello, just in case anyone out there is still wondering whether the Jedinat Jumbo cups are still available:
I visited their shop just before they moved from somewhere near Heidelberg to their current address near Cologne (I think that was in 2006). Christian Jedinat showed me two sets of jumbo cups, one copper, one nickel over copper. He said these were the last sets of jumbo cups he had and that he would not re-issue them. He felt the 'close-up' size allowed for final loads big enough for street work (regulation tennis balls), while the jumbo cups were so big that the small balls used in working the cups and balls looked tiny in comparison to the cups. He thought that damaged the overall impact of the trick. I bought the copper set and guess that two years later the nickel set would be gone, too. So if Christian has not started producing these cups again, which he told me he wouldn't, I am afraid the Jedinat jumbo cups are no longer on the market. Jason, could it be that the cups you were considering were their "close-up" size cups? Anyway, I agree that the Jedinat cups, whatever size, are well made. The close-up size is still huge in comparison to close-up cups like the standard Paul Fox cups or the Sisti cups and it is definitely large enough for street work (see Bill's measurements). I have both sizes and can recommend them. |

I think the fact that Willi Seidl, Jnr. is now producing the cups his dad made may have something to do with this, as well.
We visited the Jedinats at Rösrath in 2006. They have bought an old mill. They are doing almost entirely mail order and internet sales now, and they are also doing lectures. He only had a couple of sets of cups when we visited them.
