What would you say the 'classic' stand up comedy routines are? My top three...
1) Bill To Lemon 2) Banana Bandana 3) The Bra Trick 2 and 3 are not the strongest magic but they certainly are classics! What do you think? |

AAh the jumbo three card monte. Do you have a personal favorite?? Worked on a new(?) version all morning. A pre-recorded narrative about a con-artist I once saw (true story; my mom was a bartender and I was 7 yrs old). He actually did the monte, and I remember it plain as day... using the giant cards... index tricked... don't know whose it is... the books all the way across the room... Anyway, I will take my jacket and hat off, and hang it on a short mic stand... go back and get dressed in the Con's stuff as the recording introduces the story... and the recording tells the story from my (youngster's) point of view, and I (the performer) take on the role of the Con. This way, I'm not putting anybody on the spot... the micstand with jacket and hat become the Youngster... and the Youngster gets to HOLD the "odd card"... (because the card would be leaning against a mic stand anyway... this way, the kid seems to be holding it)... all from a first person/audience empathy POV... Come on guys... I know it sounds ridiculous... but I'd Love to have this routine in my act for New Year's Eve down in Des Moines. Big party. Hotel Fort Des Moines... "Rockin' In The Blue Year"... Bunch of bands. and me. Good times. Any reliable Monte one-liners you'd recommend? I have about a million and one different versions of this *** trick (close up and otherwise) but never made its way into a regular standup routine. I love Anderson's... but don't want to steal it... even tho his story and mine are eerily similar... (salutes the jack daniels to any help) Thanks!

Nobody has said Egg Bag, Egg-to-Silk, Homing Card, or Half-Dyed Hank. Those are all classics that have stood the test of time.
