I am putting together a gambling show and need a good table. I am considering building one or having a freind who makes performance tables make me one. The problem is I need the table to be covered for most of the tricks, but also need a smooth surface for dice stacking. I am considering making the table top reversable, but was also wanting a dawer to hold props. Any ideas?

You could make a table top that is covered on one side, and on the other side it is a hard smooth surface for the dice work. And instead of having a drawer, which may make the reversibility awkward, you could hold your props in a servant hanging from the back.
Or, you could make a table with a drawer, with a hard surface, and keep a large close-up pad rolled in the drawer. Use the close-up pad for the effects you need, then roll the pad up, place it in the drawer, and have the smooth surface ready for the dice work. |

I bought a table from Frank here at the Café. It is a great table and he is a great person to do business with. I use the table for the Cups and Balls. I don't do dice stacking, but if you turn the table over it is a perfect surface for dice stacking.
I don't benefit from endorsing Frank's products, I just thought I would let you know. He makes a lot of good products. His pouch for cups is fantastic too. Of course the table I have doesn't have a draw. Maybe you can have it custom built. Or, what about Kozmo's Servante to hold your props? Best Simon

Thanks Simon for the nice comments.
To be honest, if you need a drawer, this sounds more like a tabman table project to me. Then, instead of having to turn the table over to do dice stacking, you could slip a thin formica-covered surface out of the "secret compartment" under the drawer and put it on top of the padded surface.

A servant can help you out with your drawers, however.

Thanks guys I think I will go with the turn over top idea, using a bag instead of dawer. Should be easier to transport that way too.

Ronjo Magic has a Beautiful close up table with a drawer. There is even a compartment to hold a close up mat,so you have either a smooth or padded surface when you want. You can carry it like small suitcase. It is beautifully crafted in wood .I have had mine for 12 years.

It would be easy to just buy a stackable drawer and mount it on a table base.

I was just going to suggest something like that. There's nothing stopping you from having a drawer as a table base and resting your double sided surface on top of it. If everything's the right size, you can use the "rim" of the table top to center it on the drawer to keep it from sliding around if it gets bumped.
