Hi, I would like to possibly do the Buskers next year or the year after at the Buskers at Halifax. But I need to know a few things. First, how old do you have to be in order to join? How hard is it to get in? Do you guys get over the nervousness easily? How long should the show be? How many tricks in a show? What types of tricks? Should I aim for mostly adults, or mostly kids? how hard would it be for them to see cards?
Just tell me what you know. I am not really as dumb as Im making it sound here, I know what I should be doing, I just want advise to see if this will be good for me. I will try to post my routine I plan on doing once I get it perfect. My problem is that I have been changing it soo much lately, and what I put down will probably soon change. I don't get much time to practice the whole thing so I don't know what will go well together and what wont. And then when I do get the chance to practice them, I find something that doesn't work out, the I need to change it. Anyways, thanks for the help. -Cory. |

You have great thing on your side, your young. The best way to learn is out there doing it. You look a dab hand with coins and cards well build on this to atrract folk. Take your qwestions and try to answer them your self first. This is play time as well as a learning time. Use these early days to play with idears, don't be afaide to make mistackes. What do you want to portray? Who do you want to aim for, so on? Set your self up and go for it and then keep than on keeping on. You cant beat learning to busk on the street. Mario |

Magicguy, try reading his posts on your other thread. He is either cheering you on or asking questions himself not advising. Not a real polite statement on your part.

I think both of them should read Mario's "Real Buskers come forward" thread. I was puzzled too by magicman's response offering advice after his post saying he might try it himself next year.
I think both of them can offer each other support, but doubt that either of them have any "real life" advice to offer... yet. My advice? Just do it! I was told that, I did it, and I learned a LOT.

I know Jim Cellini is offering busker classes in Zurich, Switzerland. BUt per chance you can't make it out there (haha) I would definitely recommend his videos on street magic. It's my personal opinion that he is quite simply the best.

There are plenty of good videos now on the subject(I have most of them, and still collecting more), but nothing can replace just doing it.
That's funny coming from me. I've been "studying" it for years, but it wasn't until this year that I actually did something with it. But still, the preparation paid off. When it came down to "doing it" the moves were "imprinted" so I just had to deal with the street part. That part you won't find in any book. Sure, they talk about it, but that's not enough.

I'd encourage you to get some experience before you go to a festival. Do you have a pitch in your hometown? If so, then get out there and get cracking.

Not having done it, the festival route sounds like it might be a good idea. You can "break in" your act without the worries of the crowd gathering part. They're there to see you already, so that part should be easier. Once your confidence level is up, and the jitters are over, then you can work on the hard part of getting the crowd in the first place.

Cuz I know that when or if I become a busker, that is what I would do. But no, I have never done anything of the sort. And the info I was giving you was just information I have gathered throughout the years. |
