This weekend I did a stand-up show for a large family reunion. I had a good response to performing Anywhere Bill, using a "Christmas theme". (for anyone not acquainted with this effect, here's a description: http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=1958)
After asking the seasonal question of how snowflakes and dollar bills are alike (both are one-of-a-kind) I borrowed a non-gaffed bill from an audience member, tore a portion of the bill (including the serial number) and allowed the hostess to make the final tear of the piece from the rest of the bill (I never touched the small piece again), holding onto it as "a receipt in case anything should happen to the rest of the bill". Well, of course it does. In fact I openly burn the reminder of the bill in a small decorative Christmas cookie tin and, after the flame has died down, cover the tin with the lid. I then went on to perform a couple of other effects, checking periodically with the hostess to see if she still had the "receipt". (effective reoccurring dialog w/the hostess) After a few minutes I asked her to hold onto the receipt and make her way to large Christmas tree which had been in view during the entire performance. At my direction she looked for an certain Santa ornament hanging on the tree. She found it, brought it to the front table and, as I kept my distance, she placed it into a plastic bag and proceeded to smash it with a miniature hammer. In the clear bag everyone could see that among the broken glass was in fact what appeared to be a dollar bill. Carefully lifting out the bill she compared this bill to the "receipt" and of course it was a perfect match, including (as I stressed her to verify) the serial number. The resulting silence was due to the audiences disbelief. (a wonderful sound to a magician, considering the givens) That and Mark Jenest's "Billoon" (my finale piece) were the most talked about due primarily to their openness and resulting impossibility. I'm not selling The Anywhere Bill, but rather I'm reporting on a positive response to an effect easily raised to the miracle class with no sweat handling and highly adaptable to multiple settings and event applications. |

Great Christmas themed routine. That was definitely a creative way of entertainingly presenting a routine. Bravo!
Hopefully someone did not try smashing the rest of the ornaments!

Thanks for your response Cabrera.
In a quick look I discover that I didn't proof my post and the spelling is less than great! My apology to the Café grammar hosts. (having been there I can appreciate your jobs) Regardless, thanks for all you do behind the scenes. Ron |

I use this at my table-hopping gig OCCASIONALY. Due to the cost& set-up requirements, I only do it when I want to REALLY achieve a smack-em-down-drag-em-out impact. It leaves almost NOTHING in the way of 'clues' for the specs.
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.
