I am currious from the wrestling fans here about what story lines they saw that they didn't really agree with. I know that I have been part of several that have been very edgy. In fact I had to have police follow me home one night because my life was in danger. There aren't to many is WWE that I think are just horrible. The only one that really comes to mind is the Katie Vick story line involving Kane. On my part of things I have been Anti American, Afgani sympathizer, I have had to mock religion. Just one of those really just bothered me though. It was being Anti american. And its not because it was against my morals or any thing. It is because of things that I was told by my promoter to say in a promo. It was the one where I was attacked by fans after my match. I have offended a lot of people by the way of my trainer and I had a huge fued going on and he worked as the Good Rev and at the end of all our matches he would slam me in the head with the bible. I just thought that was fun though. Shame on me.

ANY storyline that involves getting slammed over the head with a metal chair...or barbed wire. Really not cool...or fun. I never met a wrestler who deserved that (I'm sure they exist...I just never met one I didn't think was a stand up decent guy. Fortunately I never met Vince McMahon.
The one I most didn't agree with involved Sgt. Slaughter...just a hell of good person...at the time he was signed to be a GI JOE character...he fought against anti-American Arab types and other unsavory heels...then somnebody got the UN-brilliant idea to have him TURN traitor to the USA and be a heel. Do you have any idea how that affected the kids?? How that affected Toy sales? How that affected his career? Slaughter was the kind of person that as long as there was a kid in line for his autograph he would stay put untill every single kid was taken care of...and he talked to each and every one as well and took repping the USA rather seriously. He shouldn't have gone along with that really stupid script.

I never cared for Brett Hart's last heal trun, when he went off on an anti american rant. I guess it made for ratings in someone's mind, but the obvious problem came in that it made him an American heal, and a Canadian hero. I'll never forget the episode of RAW years ago which was taped at some Canadian venue. Every match had a member of the Hart family in it, and the fans all cheared for the Heals. Until the end. In the last match the undertaker came out, and the fans began to chear in the usual way.
The real problem with the angle is that the two countries are on good terms, and almost always have been at least good trade parteners if not more. I don't mind Vince capitalizing on rival countries anamosities or wars, but not our friends.

Unfortunatley when you are at the level that Slaughter was at with the WWE, you don't have much choice. He was fine with it though, and when he turned face again he had even more fans.
The only thing that I ever turned down was when I was to turn heel. It was the end of my feud with my trainer and I was to get hit in the head with the bible repeatidly. Then I was to grab the bible and tear it up and set it on fire. That is the only thing I turned down. It was a good thing to. I wouldnt have made it as far as I have in the midwest if I would have done it. It is kind of funny though how things you do when you first get started stick with you though. I still have people email me about my sept 11th promo. That is the promo that made me one of the most hated and top guys in the missouri/kansas/arkansas area. |

Nope...didn't know Sgt. Slaughter...only met him when me and the kids waited in line (forever) so they could get his autograph. Got to talk with him a bit. Have talked with other wrestlers about him though.
Corey...he might have picked up a fan base again but there were an awful lot of GI Joe toys that were tossed out over that one...not to mention the cartoons which became obsolete. Just a dumb McMahon move for no reason whatsoever. How about all the little Hulksters when Hogan went NWO and spray painted and spat on opponents...what's the message here? Playing with loyalties I guess is ok for the older punks but the little guys don't quite 'get it'. Neither do I I guess. The game which was once fun turned pretty nasty for awhile and might still be...I stopped watching for 'fun' about 6 or 7 years ago... I've seen some good regional though and it's still a lot of fun when done right as an entertainment rather than inciting fan boys to break their scrawny necks in the back yard and set themselves on fire...or the less stable folks to hate (for real) you because you changed horses for a promo. When the sport catered to the general public rather than the psychos was when it was fun. (obviously just my personal take on it). Like in Lucha Libre, when acrobatic athleticism is the prime ingredient and the story lines are clearly drawn without barbed wire and torture intruments keeping away the familys...

I think the one with Eddie, Rey, and Dominique was kinda over the line. Even though everyone in my family knew it was fake, we still were cursing under our breath about how evil Eddie was. Now we are all sad that he is gone...

That's the great thing about wrestling. You can know that its just a storyline, But it can still pull you in. It is like with most of the heels, a lot of them are so believeable that when you see them in public you cant seperate them from who they play in the ring. I have had fans freak out because they run into me outside the ring at walmart or a resturaunt in what ever town I'm in, and they cant believe how nice and polite I actually am. That is how I got a my fan club. Now when I go to arkansas I get free steak dinners and free room and board. I just hope that wrestling gets back to what it used to be. It wouldnt suprise me if it went back to territories by 2015. Most american fans of wrestling don't respect the wrestlers and what they do in the ring. THey just enjoy the matches. In japan and mexico the fans truly appriciate every thing about wrestling.

Katie Vick
Tim White (Current story and its going to continue, totaly bad taste) Lita's "Baby" Wrestlemania 7 was supposed to be the biggest ever with a capacity of over 100 thousand, but they had to change to a smaller arena at the last minute, Slaughter had death threats because of the Iraqi story, and having the show outside wouldnt have been a good idea...

Speaking of the "anti-american" thing...there was a story a couple weeks back when WWE was in Boston. Kurt Angle was in the ring and was babbling on about how he would not go to Afghanistan with the other superstars because he was not going to risk his life for our troops who are serving the country that does not "respect" him because everyone chants "You Suck" everytime his music plays. I know Kurt is not like that and he was just going on as scripted, but in these times, the writers really need to watch what they have the talent say. Some people could really get riled up over it. I usually don't care what they spat on about in the ring, but that line seemed to be a little too much. It is kind of funny how Daivari is following him around like a little lost pup now though.
