Hello.
The other day I was with some relatives and they had some christmas crackers which we were pulling. Someone got a deck of cards in a cracker so I did a couple of effects and then someone got a pen out of their cracker. I took the pen and did the effect mentioned in the title. I don't often perforrm it as I know how well that it is well known. This is one of the first tricks I ever learnt so I have got it down really well. My dad later saw my uncle trying to bend the pen by pushing it against the table!! he said to my dad that he was just testing. I'm quite pleased with that tribute. |

Good one Elliot. You may want to explain what a cracker is. Most Americans don't know. I do and I still thought you were talking about the kind of cracker that is eaten at first. LOL

Good work! One addition I've seen that works well is to get a duplicate pen and run very hot water over the middle so you can actually put a slight bend into it.
Do the "Bendy Pen" as you did and put it away, then pull the other one out to show it one more time (substitute a better switch if you have one). This time keep it aligned so they can't see the bend. This time as you do the shake move, roll the pen so the bend is visible and then hand it out. It should be fun to see your uncle trying to "unbend" the pen after that.
No trees were killed in the making of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

For those of you in Rio Linda, a "cracker" is what we Yanks would call a "popper." The type most commonly shown in mid-20th century magic books from England looks like a short piece of toilet paper roll that has been wrapped in tissue paper that is about 3 times as long as the roll segment. This is tied at each end, so that you have a cylinder with a pair of frilly ends. There is a piece of heavy cardboard that sticks out of each end. You pull on both ends of this simultaneously and the thing pops, sending out a spray of confetti and possibly candy or other treats.

Learned something new on this post. Never heard of a "Cracker" This is the one trick I sometimes teach to young children who want to learn some simple magic.
Thanks Craig |

At that point you should have performed "pulling off your thumb", "got your nose" and "coin from spectators ear" and really blown your uncle away.
You must have really built up some credability to your "powers". Nice story.
