I respect your opinion, and its a valid argument.
You are right in that several other dvds and books are out are merely complilations of whats been done in the past. Its just that this is Jay's first dvd and it doesn't leave a good impression being that its his first and so far only dvd that he has put out. Richard Kaufman and Michael Ammar have many many books and dvds of their own material. With your two exampples, Kaufman has Cardworks(and many others), and Michael Ammar has The Magic of Michael Ammar and his Early Ammar material. Also as stated in my previous post, in this thread, and all over the Café there are so many dvds that have combined material to that its getting excessive. Unless Jay had several touches on each color change that would be different. But he is just further explaining the moves. After all that has been put out in terms of dvds that have certain subjects, if there contintues to be projects like this it makes magic look bad. Also Richard Kaufman and Michael Ammar are very well establish and renowned magicians who are both recognized as among the most influential people of our time. Most of their books and dvds are moves that were shown to them by their inventor, especially Ammar and Vernon. Jay is brought up by Penguin magic as far as I know. And unless people go to Penguinmagic they would never know. On the other hand good magicians and professionals when putting someone else in the right direction, or learning magic would go to Ammar and Kaufman who have put out products that are in everyone's collection. Most good magicians have at least one product from Ammar or Kaufman. And this same concept applies to other people as I mentioned before, Harry Lorayne, Daryl, Dan Harlan, Roberto Giobbi, Jeff McBride. All these professionals have compiled material of other people on their products. But these people are all extremely influential people who will be known for their achievments and contributions long after that have died just like Derek Dingle, Mike Bornstein, Vernon, Jennings and so on. So far unless its hidden on the dvd Jay has not shown anything of his own. Whether he has anything of his own is irelevant, but repeating moves that have been done forever by those influential people, just looks bad. In addition, Ammar and Kaufman as you mentioned have done more than repeat tricks from the past, but also also give insight on the work, and how achieves the maximum goal. Jay simply explains it in depth which is an insult to readers who have read all the classic books where those color changes came from. In making this dvd I'm guessing that after the demos he did, Penguin offered him a chance to film some magic. So he decided to look through Daryl and Card College, and explain then all on one dvd. And then again, I could be wrong.(but that would certainly make sense). just my returning thoughts |

Thanks for elaborating on your prior post. I haven't seen the DVD, but from your post, it made it seem that it was bad to release material that's already been released. But I better understand you're perspective.

No problem. I opologize I wasn't completely clear.
Like I said before I haven't bought the dvd, nor do I plan to. However those were my impressions from the very thorough demo of the dvd. If anyone purchases the dvd, and it proves opposite of what I believe, all the better. |

Hi seskindell,
That's for the review! This is what I was hoping to hear. Since, like most magicians, I also have most of the other recommended resources. So I know most of these Color Changes. I was wondering if the DVD gives some unique handling, touch or advise that are useful. Thanks Phil |

Seskindell- I'm curious do you have Card College, the Daryl dvd and other sources mentioned.
I would like to know if there is anything at all on the dvds that different or original. Or does he just explain things well? thanks |

Seskindell, I would like to know that too. I would be happy to make a purchase if there are some new handlings or variations of those classic changes.

OK, so it's a re-hash of classics. How does this fellow perform them? The clip provided didn't look that outstanding.

MagicChris- if you see my first and second post in this threal you'll see that I completely agree with you.
From the other demos Jay is pretty good, but the dvd looks like it has nothing original. Too much repetition is not good for magic. |

Yes. I did and and after I watched it I cried for a whole week. Not cries of amusement or astonishment. But cries of regret as I have flushed $$30 down the drain, a well-earned $$30 that could've bought a colume of CC or a homersimpson stomach of hotgdogs

This DVD is very poorly made, the navigation is horrible and the menu loops back before you can even figure out where you want to go. The fonts used are illegible. The color changes shown are very basic, this may be a good buy for the beginner.
No matter How much you know you can never stop learning.
